Hi Laurie ... I was saddened to learn of your fathers passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hang on to those wonderful precious memories.
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Andy. I am the coach of girl's hockey team at Regina Mundi Catholic College (RMC). We would see Andy skating at Nichols Arena ahead of our scheduled ice time. Last year Andy stopped to talk to the girls about hockey and being on the team that won the first gold medal for Canada in men's ice hockey. Some of the girls had their picture taken with him. As I walked into the school this morning, one of my players stopped me to ask if I had heard of Andy's passing. She also said that when she saw it on the news she turned to her dad and said that she had met him last year. Another player, our captain, also stopped me to say how sad she was to hear about Andy and she too had commented to her dad how she had met Andy. Just wanted to let you know what an impact Andy had on some young lady hockey players when he took 10 mins to stop and talk them. Thank you Andy, you will be missed greatly from the RMC girl's hockey team.
To all of Andy's family. We are on vacation in Florida and have just heard the sad news. Andy was such a joy to be around with his ever present smile and never ending kindness. We just thought he would go on forever. We want to extend our deepest sympathies to all of his family on your great loss, however, what memories you have to draw from and what a legacy he has left you and everyone fortunate enough to have met him. I will really miss him and I do not say that lightly. We are thinking of you all. Nancy and Brian Logie.
There are no words to describe how much we will miss Andy. He was a role model and inspiration to us and everyone he met. We loved him dearly. We are so very sorry for your loss.
I was very saddened to hear of Andy's passing. I am a member of his skating group and one of those who, along with Andy, went afterwards to coffee. When we saw his gold medal box, repaired with duck tape, I offered to help get him a new pouch made for the box. Currently I am in Florida and regret that I cannot be a part of the celebration of this remarkable man's life. I am proud to have been considered a friend and regret that I will go into the arena dressing room and will miss not getting that big bear hug. Andy has left a big void in many lives. His joie de vivre was both admirable and inspiring . It was his gift to all of us. With sincere sympathy to all. Andrea Graham
We were saddened to hear of Andy's passing. The hockey world has lost a wonderful man and ambassador of the game. Andy was a loyal fan following the career of our goalie, Blair Bennett. Andy was always sharing his stories, his Gold Medal and patiently answered many questions. One night when he was involved in the opening ceremonies he wore his 1948 team jersey. We will miss your big smile Andy. Our condolences. Don Van Massenhoven, President Strathroy Rockets Jr B Hockey Club
Andy was one of the first persons I spoke with when I attended my first senior skate a few years back. There was an immediate connection. I knew at that moment that I had just met a very special friend. Although I skated at other arenas , Mondays with Andy were sacred. His twinkling smile, positive outlook, unspeakable kindness , and perseverance was infectious . You simply became a better person in his company. Wanting to do better and be better. I will miss the opportunities to celebrate special occasions with him. Andy has left me and all who knew him a legacy to do better and be better. Kindness is never to be under estimated and time is measured in its' quality and in Andy's case in quantity. Blessings to all his family. "Say not in grief he is no more - but live in thankfulness that he was! " Hebrew proverb
