Antonio Pace

August 29, 2022

We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Antonio Pace, who passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022, just shy of his 87th birthday. Proud father to Beatriz Pace and Manolita Pace. Loving Abuelo to Bryar Pace and Braxton Pace (Jillian Quick). He will also be missed by our mother Manuela Pace. Cherished brother to Josie (Fred) Catania and brother-in-law to Mary Pace (late Lorry). Predeceased by his parents Emanuel and Melita; sisters Margaret (Zarenu) Defelice, Mary (Edward) Psaila, Theresa Pace, and Carmen (Sunny) Harmsworth. Antonio will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Antonio was born the third youngest of seven children in Msida, Malta, where he spent his childhood and most of his teenage years. His favourite and most cherished memory of Malta was going to the Mediterranean Sea and catching clams as a kid, and eating them on the spot.

When Antonio arrived in Canada, he lived and breathed cars. He always owned some type of sports car ranging from a Trans Am, Camaro, and a Mustang (just to name a few), but his pride and joy was his 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car – the first year Corvette earned that spot. Growing up, his children knew not to put a fingerprint on his cherished Corvette, but if it happened he had a car shammy on hand to wipe it away. When Antonio wasn’t out enjoying his car or busy washing it, he could be found either watching boxing or at one of the local dances on the dance floor. He was notorious for his dance moves.

He worked hard all his life as a foreman painter in both Canada and the USA and was well-known for being incredibly passionate about his work. He excelled in the exacting nature this work required. Antonio made friends easily, and earned the respect of many of his peers. In his retirement years, Antonio always looked forward to Spring so he could
be out on his mountain bike, or spend his days in his back yard arranging all his collection of lawn ornaments. He was loved and will be missed by his neighbours and friends, as they would go to Westmount Mall for their daily walks followed by a coffee. His day would never be complete without getting a visit from the neighbour’s dog.

We would like give a special thank you to Barry Stearns, who volunteered to drive our father to medical appointments. You are a true angel and my father spoke so highly of you.

Visitation and reception to be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. The family requests that all guests in attendance wear a mask or facial covering. Antonio’s cremated remains will be spread along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Malta at a later date. In memory of Antonio, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society – London & Middlesex.

So sad to hear of the passing of our old neighbour Tony. We lived next door to Tony for over 30 years but moved about 6 months ago. He amazed me with his attention to his beautiful gardens and his many ornaments. I would see him out in his garden when I went off to work before 8 am and I’d see him still out there at 8 pm. It was his passion! My thoughts and prayers are with Tony and his family Rest In Peace Tony.
