Antonio ‘Tony’ Sgromo

December 20, 2020

November 22, 1930 – December 20, 2020

Passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario, on Sunday, December 20, 2020, in his 91st year. Devoted husband to Diana (née Panzarella) for 66 years. Beloved father of Elizabeth and Enrico (Rita). Cherished grandfather of Paul, David, Alicia, Adriana and Francesca. Dear brother to Amos (Giovannina) and Assunta Pironaggi (Dominic); and uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and cherished. Predeceased by his brother, Arthur (Hanna). Tony immigrated to Canada from Curinga, Calabria, Italy in 1952 to build a better life, always grateful for the opportunities he was given. He was a naturally talented musician, and music remained an important part of his life. A private family service took place at St. Peter’s Cemetery & Holy Family Chapel Mausoleum. A memorial to celebrate Tony’s life will be held at a future date. A special ‘thank you’ to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria Hospital, who oversaw Tony’s care. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Tony are asked to consider CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) or a charity of your choice.

My condolences to Tony's family. Tony was a kind and generous man. He was a close friend who was dear to my late husband Bob. They had many happy times together playing music. Tony was a faithful Jehovah's Witness and I share his belief that is expressed in the Bible at Acts 24:15 "I have a hope toward God ... that there is going to be a resurrection." I look forward to seeing him in the future.
