Archie Kosynski

Passed away at his home in Lambeth on May 4th, 2011, surrounded by his loving family and looking back on a remarkable 95 years. Aschiel Kosynski was born in Ninove, East Flanders, Belgium on March 2nd, 1916 one of five children of Francis and Clementine Kosynski. He came to Canada when he was 11, and earned his “Archie” moniker when the customs officer misunderstood his polite “Aschiel” — he went by Archie from then on. He learned the value of hard work early, helping his father on the farm. It was there that he met Gladys Lewis, who he married in 1939, the beginning of a wonderful 71-year marriage. Their early years were focused on their own farm in Union, which they built into a successful business and the foundation for a better life for their family. In later years after Archie and Gladys sold the farm they enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, and friends. They had a cottage at Long Point, a condo in Florida where they spent most winters, and they enjoyed travelling to Europe. They were active curlers and golfed at St. Thomas Golf & Country Club in Union. Archie will be deeply missed and remembered by all as a hardworking, kind and generous person. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur, and is survived by his loving sisters Victoria Platschorre (late husband John), Georgette Kosynski and his devoted brother Rene Kosynski (late wife Etta). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marie Froud (nee Lewis; husband Gordon), brothers-in-law Bill (late wife Diana) and Glen Lewis (wife Rose). He will be sadly missed as well by his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a devoted father to Christine Jackson (husband Gordon) and Sharron Hutton (husband Robert), and a cherished grandfather to Jennifer Jackson (husband Michael Long), Sheree Stuart (husband James), Dr. Brett Hutton and Kris Hutton. He took great pleasure in recent years visiting his great-grandchildren Cameron and Sophie Stuart. Archie’s children and grandchildren are so grateful to have had him as part of their lives.  He and Gladys have been the most wonderful role models as parents and taught the children that the most important thing in life is family. To this day, Gladys and Archie say …”of all the things we did in our lives, we’re proudest of the kids.”  How wonderful is that? At Archie’s request, there will not be a visitation or funeral.  A private memorial to celebrate Archie’s life will be held at his home at a future date.
