Arsenio Giron

December 15, 1932 - December 8, 2022

Arsenio Giron passed away from heart failure on December 8, 2022, one week before his 90th birthday with his daughter, Sèphera by his side. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Day; his sister, Pilar; his children, Sèphera Girón and Marcel Giron (Sanja Miklenic); and his grandchildren, Adrian Grant and Dorian Grant, among many other relatives around the world. Born in Renteria, Spain in 1932, Arsenio immigrated to North America as a young boy. After graduating from high school, he pursued music studies at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he received a Bachelor of Music and met the love of his life, Patricia. He received an M.A. at Tulane University. He also attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Arsenio and Patricia had two children before moving to London, Ontario, where he taught theory and composition at the University of Western Ontario. He was the recipient of numerous awards and commissions, writing symphonies, chamber music, opera, songs, piano solos, clarinet solos, and several choral compositions. Arsenio was able to spend one last summer with Patricia in his beloved cabin in Maine this past summer. He has been cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held in a few months. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Arsenio may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
