We were so fortunate when Tom and Wendy bought the house beside us on Stephen Street in 1985. This is when Avery and Jo became part of our lives. So many laughs and good times. My kids, especially Bryan always thought of Avery and Jo as grandparents. Great times at their cottage! Our deepest condolences to the Spencer/McCann family.

Avery was my uncle and as an uncle he was the best. There are not many people in this world who know how to play their "role" Being an uncle is a major role in someone's life. An uncle's role is to stand in when your father isn't present. My uncle Avery did that for me and in some ways did the same for my wife Sylvia. I will forever remember my Uncle Avery as being a man who understood what it was to be a "role model" Bob & Sylvia Cook

As a kid I spent a lot of time at the Spencer cottage. Avery and Jo were always like a grandparents to me. Avery is one of the most wonderful, understanding, and patient people I've ever met. Avery was a great entertainer, he always knew what to say and how to make you laugh. I'll never ever forget the gooderham fair with Jake the peg. I'm very lucky to say Avery was a big part of my growing up. My condolences to the Spencer/McCann family and all the people that Avery has touched over the last 90 years.

Avery will live on in my memory as the sweetest, most genuine, lovely man. I'm lucky to have grown up feeling as though Avery and Jo were like another set of grandparents to my brother and I. My condolences to the Spencer/McCann's for this tremendous loss. He will forever be missed. Nutsy and Crazy for always!

To all of you, I have such fond memories of Avery, whether it was the band and the 3 legged man or the instruments he would just let us play. Now as my kids have gotten older, and we go to the cottage I tell them all the time who Avery lane is named after. We are so lucky to be able to go to the cottage that Avery and others built and it will be even more special this year. Love you all, Karyn, Shane, Abby and Will
