Barbara ‘Barb’ Hubbell

September 7, 2023

Peacefully at home on Thursday, September 7, 2023 in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Sherwood Hubbell for 41 years. Cherished mother of Dave (Jill) Hubbell, Susan (Brian) Schmitt, Ann (Don) McColl, and Kim (Dave) Johnston. Dear grandmother of Matt, Scott, Hillary (Will), Spencer, Josh, Megan, Katie, Sophie and Charlotte. Survived by siblings Don, Jack and Phyllis Cook. Predeceased by her brother Bill and grandson Benjamin. Barb dedicated her life to her family and caring for others. She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, and when she retired, she volunteered her time as a coordinator for the London International Children’s Festival and the Thames Valley Children’s Centre Auxiliary, where she became president of the Holiday Home Tour, and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for augmentative communication devices. Barb’s biggest accomplishment and source of pride was her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she gave all of herself to them. Her biggest gifts of unconditional love, kindness, forgiveness and giving will always be cherished. Funeral service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. Celebration of Life to follow at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre, 551 Windermere Road, London at 5:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Barbara are asked to consider the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario or a charity of their choice.

Dear Hubbell family, I am so very sad to learn that Barb has passed away. I am sending love and best wishes as you celebrate the life while grieving the loss of your beloved matriarch. Barb was a very special person to me. My husband and I have known Barb and Hub for over 40 years, and we enjoyed many happy times together. I also stayed with Barb when I was homeless in London, while our home in Bayfield was being built. I volunteered with Barb at the Thames Valley Children's Centre Holiday Home Tours. Barb and I had many adventures and misadventures together. Rest in peace, Barb, after a life so well lived. You are a very special person. Blessings to the family. ~ Dawn

Dear Hubbell Family I am happy to have known Barb and family for most of my life. She was always so patient and practical with us teens and she was a great mentor to me as a teacher- in- training back in the 1980s. She was so proud of all her children - her beloved family and her students too! Even in these latest years she loved to be surrounded by her family and she was blessed to have them near. Barb- you are greatly loved, and you will be missed. We will be thinking of you all on Monday. With from Paula (Sabourin) Robert, Kathleen, Stephanie and Jack Edwards.
