Basil Michael Kelly

October 9, 1936 - October 31, 2025

Basil was a loving husband to Sarah (Sally) and her partner in life, love, outdoor adventures, and growing award-winning roses. Together, they created a warm, loving home for Ann and Michael. They enjoyed hiking, canoeing, camping, waterskiing and bicycling. A proud dad, Basil enjoyed watching Michael, David and friends play hockey and even built a rink for them in the backyard. He also enjoyed watching Ann fly a glider plane.

Hailing from Cape Broyle, Newfoundland, Basil left home in 1954 to join the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he was a proud Veteran. After 17 years of military service, Basil joined the 3M team. Basil was a proud Canadian as well as a Montreal Canadians fan. Family and friends knew Basil to be a wonderful family man who was devoted to Sally, Ann and Michael. Basil was kind, wise, resourceful, and an all-around handyman. He was very interested in people, and he was truly present with others. Basil role modeled what it was to be a good husband, father, grandfather and citizen and together with Sally, inspired the same in Ann and Michael.

Basil will forever be remembered by daughter Ann, husband John, grandsons Christopher, Andy, and Peter Stuurman, as well as son Michael, wife Wendy, and grandchildren Brendan, Liam, Dillon and Talia Kelly. He will also be remembered by Maureen (Hynes), and Kelly brothers Pat, Dave, Dan, Brian and their families.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Basil will be held at Westview Funeral Home, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. A livestream will be available for those unable to attend the funeral service.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rain fall softly on your fields and until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Dave, Dan, Pat, Brian and Maureen, Please accept my condolences. Basil was a kind and gentle man. Your grandfather worked on the American Air Force base in Greenland in 1947. He brought a dartboard for Basil for Christmas. Kevin, Eugene and myself played darts together for several years. Great memory. May Basil rest in peace.

Dear Sarah and family, we are so very sorry to hear of Baz's passing. Steve and I are so happy we had the opportunity to meet Basil, he was such a lovely, and kind person. I hope all of your beautiful memories will keep your heart warm during this difficult time.

My window to know Basil was from age 7-17. Mike and I played minor hockey together for 10 years. It saddens me to hear of his passing because I remember him as the nicest, most caring hockey Dad. He and Sally were always there cheering every game and consoling in defeat. And Basil always had an easy manner and smile. Now, 40+ years later, without seeing him, I feel very sad. That's the impression this man made on me. A wonderful human. Hugs to Sally, Mike and Ann.

Dear Sarah, Sincerest condolences to you and all Basil's loved ones. He was the very nicest of men. I remember all the prizes he won for his horticulture at the Western Fair! Divine Mercy Prayer Group will be holding you in prayer; may Basil rest in peace.
