Catherine E. (nee Zavitz) Burnett

March 16, 2014

After a long battle, Cathy passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16th, 2014 in her 59th year at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital with her husband Bill and family by her side. Predeceased by her mother Mildred Zavitz (1988). Loving sister of Ross (Sandra), Jim (Carol), David (Kate), Barry (the late Marie), Ray (Jean), Rose (the late Ray), and Helen and sister-in-law of Susan (Howard) and David (Barb). Cathy had an enthusiasm for life. Her tenacity, spirit of adventure and sense of humour are legacies she leaves to all, especially her 19 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews. A loving wife, aunt, friend and mentor, Cathy was generous, outgoing, upbeat, compassionate and dynamic. Her spirit was contagious and she had a way of opening one’s eyes to possibilities not even considered. She was forever optimistic. Cathy was lovingly cared for through her health struggles by her best friend Bill, the love of her life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 20th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. (with visitation one hour prior). Interment, Woodland Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Cathy are asked to consider the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Helen: I'm sorry for your loss. Tim

My deepest sympathy to everyone connected to Cathy but especially Bill. I started out with Cathy when she created her business Graphic Facts in the basement of her house. We worked many long hours and had tons of laughs. Cathy was a force to be reckoned with and God help you if you were in her way! I loved her positive attitude and always ready to see the good things in life.

Cathy, first a friend and second a business associate. I will always be in awe of her spirit of living life . She continued to remind me by the way she lived her life that we all should stop and take stock in our lives. She was one of the most amazing people I have ever meet. I am sad for Bill as he has truly lost someone special .

~ Michael Straw

I have the privilege of knowing Cathy, Bill and family since I was a teen. Cathy took a chance on me by giving me my first break in my career at Graphic Facts. A strong, motivated, goal oriented and passionate woman both in business and in life. A fantastic mentor, roll model, friend and extended family member. We have lost a beautiful person. She will be deeply missed but my family and I will be forever grateful that she, Bill and their family are part of our lives. Cathy, a day doesn't go by that I don't think of you and thank you for being in my life. You will never be forgotten and are forever in our hearts. God bless.

Cathy was a great inspiration to all of us at the Thursday morning quilt classes as well as at our Hearts and Hands Quilt group. Anyone meeting her was never the same :-)!! She was a true inspiration to us as she faced her life with such courage and optimism. She didn't talk much about herself, but wanted to get those quilts done to bless other people. And, she was passionate about making quilts for the chemo unit at our local hospital after receiving one herself before getting into quilting. We will miss Cathy dearly at our Thursday morning classes. Praying for you Bill and the rest of the family as you grieve your loss. It was good to be with you this morning sharing memories together. May God give you much strength!!

As so many, I too had the privilege of knowing Cathy. Such a all around wonderful lady-- we share work projects and many laughs over the years when I was in London with Northrup King. I will never forget her. God Bless and my condolences to the Family.

It occurred to me recently that Cathy Burnett was my very own Auntie Mame. She had an enthusiasm for life that was contagious and a way of opening your eyes to possibilities you hadn't even considered. She was generous, compassionate, fun loving, gregarious and tenacious and I'm very grateful she was in my life. Bill's care for Cathy, both physically and emotionally, reflects the depth of his love for her and I feel privileged to have witnessed it. That is what love looks like. All my love to Bill and Cathy's entire family.

~ Michael Skinner

My condolences go to the Family !!! May She rest in Peace!!

Cathy, you will be so missed in my life. You made our quilt meetings so joyful. We always had a smile on our faces with you among us. Your positive attitude for life was contageous and it will be missed each 1st Monday of the month and always. Bill, I never got to meet you but you could tell by the way Cathy spoke your name, you were the love of her life.

~ Tina Vyn

Cathy was a well loved part of our Thursday morning quilt group. She had an enthusiasm for life and always had a positive attitude even when she wasn't feeling the best. Her humor had us laughing many times. Cathy was artistic and challenged us many times with her new and unusual twist to a design for her quilts. I will really miss Cathy on Thursday mornings and am grateful to God for having the opportunity to have had her in my life. She spoke with love about Bill many times and I am sure that her passing has put a void in your life, Bill. I will pray for you and may God be with you as you continue life without Cathy.

~ Alice Van Harten

Dear Cathy, You had such a big heart my friend. You always had a way to make me laugh. You taught me to get on with life and to always look forward and never backwards. Yes, you were a great friend and mentor. You brought out my creativity in ways I never imagined. I will never forget our visits in Port Stanley ... gabbing and laughing in the sunshine with our feet up. Those are the times I will cherish the most. I feel really blessed to have known you and to have witnessed Bill's loving care and compassion for you. xoxo My genuine heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Bill and Cathy's family at this time.
