In Loving Memory of Darlene Sharon Ropp

Surrounded by love, on Thursday, November 13th, 2025, at the age of 76, we said goodbye to Darlene Sharon Ropp — a devoted mother, cherished Grammie, and beloved sister, aunt and friend — who left us with grace and peace.

Predeceased by her loving husband, John Ropp, Darlene was the proud mother of Aimee (Michael) Bowers and adoring Grammie to Jayden (Mitch) Travnicek and Matthew Bowers, whose lives she enriched with warmth and unwavering love.

The youngest of nine children to Melvin and Mabel Bender, Darlene shared a special bond with her twin sister. She was predeceased by siblings Grace Schwartzentruber, Elaine Zehr, Gerald Bender, Mary Johnston, John Bender, Ray Bender, and Doreen Ropp, and is survived by her sister Jan Brubacher.

Darlene took immense pride in her career at The London Free Press, where she served as Administrative Manager with dedication and professionalism. Her passion for people and style later led her to part-time work in women’s fashion, where she continued to brighten lives with her kindness and flair.

A gifted cook and gracious host, Darlene found joy in preparing meals and organizing small catering events for friends. Her food was an expression of love, and her gatherings were filled with thoughtfulness and connection.

Darlene will be remembered for her determined spirit, her generous heart, and the quiet strength with which she faced life’s challenges — especially throughout her long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Her family extends deep gratitude to the third-floor staff at Extendicare London for their care, and to Barb Martin and Dr. Mary Jenkins, her dedicated Neurology team, whose expertise and unwavering support meant so much over the years to both her and her family. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she cherished, and the countless lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation taking place one hour prior from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  Family and friends are invited to join together in remembrance, to honor a cherished life and share in the comfort of community. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Canada in Darlene’s memory.

I was so sorry to hear that your mom passed away Aimee. She truly was a sweetheart and dear friend. Aimee I have many wonderful memories of your mom when we worked together at the Free Press. She was a true lady and someone that I always looked up to and went to for advise when most needed. My family and I loved having Maggie come spend some time with us when she wanted to go to Bayfield for a holiday or visit friends. Our memory’s are so precious. May they bring a smile to your beautiful face during the difficult days and special holidays ahead.
