I was saddened to hear today of Dave's passing. He was a great teacher, a very supportive Montcalm staff member and a gentleman. It was an honour to be able to call him a colleague. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Carol & Jane, I am sorry to hear about your loss. David has been our neighbour in Grand Bend for my entire life and I will remember him fondly. I could set my watch to Dave's daily swim on the beach....4PM will not be the same. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. He will be missed. Brent

I am a former student of David Blair and have great memories of him from Montcalm. There is a facebook page for Montcalm Alumni and I'm sure if his family has an opportunity to read the comments they will see what a great impression he left on so many students, as a teacher and as a friend My condolences to his family

Jane and Carol. It was a very sad day to day for me when I heard of Dave's sudden passing. I have so many wonderful memories of the many years we taught together at Montcalm. He was truly a gentleman and will be missed. Lynn and my prayers are with you.

I was a student at Montcalm. He was a kind man who truly taught, and cared about, young people.

Crawf. Although it's been such a long time -- going back to St. George St. days and later in Orchard Park -- I'll always remember "Squeak" as perennially upbeat and fun to be around. I know you and Jane will miss him immensely.

Carol, so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. It was quite a surprise as we played golf late in the summer and he only complained of a sore hip. He will be missed. Kim

I taught with Dave in the business department at Montcalm at the very start of my teaching career. I will always remember the fun that students would have in his classes and the impact he had on student's lives. His ability to amaze students at Christmas assemblies with his hypnosis skills brought joy and laughter into everyone's lives. He will be sorely missed. Deepest condolences to all of Dave's family.

Mrs Blair, We are so saddened by Mr. Blair's passing. Mr. Blair supplied in my grade six classroom at Sherwood Fox one day, and it was very apparent that he had quite the sense of humour! He managed to catch his jeans on the chalkboard ledge and it created a big rip. He laughed with us as he reached for the stapler to staple his pants back together. I taught with Dave at Montcalm in the 70s. He was a caring individual and a wonderful teacher. For some reason, though, his gentle demeanour disappeared on the golf course when, on many occasions, his club and a nearby tree met with predictable results after an errant shot. I didn't see a great deal of Dave after Montcalm, except at the annual hootenannies at the Dalrymples'. I am so sorry to read of his passing. My condolences to Carol and the family.

Our deepest sympathy to you both. We still remember the kindness you showed us, many years back, in your home and how welcome you made us feel. Wishing you much strength at this difficult time.

Carol and Jane, the news of Dave's passing brought much sadness to us. I know you will both miss him greatly. He will be remembered fondly by his many friends and colleagues who worked with him at Montcalm Secondary School. Our thoughts are with you.

I am deeply saddened over the news of David's sudden passing. I can only imagine the terrible loss you must be experiencing. I will always fondly remember my times with David as my colleague and friend at Montcalm and of course our experiences together on and off the golf course. David was a a man of enormous power and strength, balanced entirely by his kindness and gentle demeanor. He was my friend and I will miss him. My sincerest condolences

Whenever David's name came up it always brought a smile to my face. We spent many a day on the golf course and took great pleasure in always being the last group to play a round for that season. His dry sense of humour will always be remembered. A round did not go by without David's unique quips. "The swing is the thing. Bird, bird, bird, bird is the word," and my favourite, "Ravi Shankar." The students enjoyed his quirkiness and his sense of humour and I know the ESL students were appreciative of his patience. My sympathies to Carol and Jane.

Carol and Jane, my heartfelt condolences. I taught with Dave in the 90s. One morning he came into the Business Office singing "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" and asked me who sang it. I've never forgotten that the answer was "Spiral Staircase" and always think of him when I hear the band's name. I was delighted when he came to a retirement celebration for me in June 2016 and I had a good laugh at his note: "Remember Spiral Staircase" in the card he gave me. Just last week I met someone who went to Montcalm in the 80s and he remembered Dave as one of his favourite teachers. His spirit will live on in the wonderful memories that so many have of him.

We were shocked and saddened to hear about Dave's passing. I have so many fond memories of teaching with Dave at Montcalm. He endeared himself to many of the students and was held in high esteem. Our deepest condolences.

I enjoyed teaching with Dave at Montcalm and learned a lot from his demeanor and skill in the classroom. You've got to respect a man who can tear a telephone book in half with his bare hands! Dave was a good friend and colleague who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

Very sad to hear about David. I enjoyed working with him here at Montcalm, and then visiting with him when he came in to supply. A nice man who will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to the family.

My condolences to the Blair family. I had Mr. Blair as a business teacher at Montcalm in the late 1970s. We were a fairly unruly class but I remember him not tolerating any nonsense from us. He quickly gained the respect of everyone with his voice and his telephone ripping trick. I remember him having the strongest looking forearms I had ever seen! We have lost one of the good guys. He will always be remembered fondly.

Mr. Blair was one of a kind! My fondest Montcalm SS memories are from his classes. To me he was a gentle giant. He taught us with and about mutual respect. My sympathies to his family and friends.

My deepest sympathy. Mr. Blair was the most amazing teacher I have ever had. Mr. Blair was such a kind man and the lessons he taught in class were not just lessons on how to pass a course but how to deal with life in the real world. Sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful teacher. So much fun was had by many in his classes. From ripping phonebooks in half to rhyming everyone's names. Was a pleasure to be in his classroom :)
