David Bruce Haydon
October 4, 2025
Peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on October 4, 2025, David Haydon passed away at the age of 88. Loving father of Becky Haydon-Batte (Sean). Cherished grandfather of Modena.
Dave Haydon was a true people person, and that gift carried him through a lifetime of success in several careers. He started out as a young man bagging groceries at Dominion in Windsor, working his way up the corporate ladder over a couple of decades before finding his true calling in Real Estate.
Nothing made Dave happier than helping a family find their forever home or seeing an investor succeed with his guidance. His tireless work ethic, passion for people and the business itself, inspired him to write a “how-to” book and start his own company, The Slide Rule, helping agents connect and share referrals across North America.
But beyond any career accomplishment, Dave would tell you his greatest joy was being a dad. He adored his daughter Becky and was endlessly proud of the woman she became. Some of his favourite moments were the simple ones —family vacations, a monthly father/daughter lunch date, trading funny stories, and just laughing!
In his 70s, Dave finally decided to “slow down” — at least in theory. He still worked occasionally, but spent more time at home with family, reading voraciously, eating mint chip ice cream, and embracing his favourite new role as Grandpa. He loved nothing more than building miniature real estate projects out of LEGO with his granddaughter Modena; teaching her, laughing with her, and delighting in every moment they shared. Always ready to lend a hand — often before anyone could ask — he earned the nickname “Abacus,” proudly saying, “You can count on me.”
Even as he faced health challenges later in life, Dave never lost his humour, kindness, or that familiar twinkle in his eye. He was proud to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary, receiving a surprise greeting card from King Charles III.
Dave’s big smile, “twinkly eyes”, quick wit, and unshakable positivity will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of Pine Suites at Southbridge Long-Term Care Home for their kindness and care during Dave’s final months.
As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

We did not know you personally Dave, but through your daughter you must have been one hell of a character, quick witted, bright smile, and always thinking of others Becky is the supreme hostess. Not to mention a fabulous mother, Modena will inherit the most wonderful aspects of being a true woman. Now I remember something about Tom Hanks and, no not Tom Cruise, was it Colin Farrell? Anyway, the 2 men that come together to support Becky A successful relationship involving two people who can build a life together, support each other’s growth, and communicate effectively, while also having a strong foundation of shared beliefs and understanding. Dave, I bet $10 bucks every conversation you had mentioned how proud you were-are of your family. They are lovable ♡
