David Ellis

Surrounded by the love of his family, David passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, the evening of Wednesday, May 24th, 2017. After battling mesothelioma in the most brave and dignified way, his battle is finally over and he has found peace. David leaves behind his beautiful wife and soul mate, Judy. Theirs was a love for the ages and their life together was filled with great adventure, laughter, devotion and most of all…love. David was the most caring and loving Dad to Brenda and her husband, Brian and Andrew and his wife, Dana. He was the best Papa and Grandpa ever to Avery, Evan, Nathan, Garrett and Kaelan. He is survived by many loving family members and dear friends. David retired 10 years ago from STIHL Ltd. in London, where he enjoyed 17 years as a leader in the company’s Technical Division. After he retired, David turned his love of home renovations and construction projects into a business venture, where he developed lasting relationships with a long list of individuals who became great friends. Aside from his family and friends, David’s great passion rested in the sport of hockey, both with his favourite local team, The London Knights, and with his Huff N’ Puff hockey league. He played three days a week and loved every moment of it. He cherished the friendships and the camaraderie that went along with each game he played. David’s other passions included the great travel adventures that he and Judy would share together. They travelled the world and had fun doing it. The times he could take his boat and go fishing were treasured moments for David. For him, there was nothing like the peace and tranquility of early mornings on the lake. As we all know, David was one of the most devoted fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was thrilled to watch them progress to the playoffs this season. And when they win the Stanley Cup, we will be able to say that David knew it would happen all along! A celebration of David’s life will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 at 12:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 485 Windermere Road, London, ON, N6A 5M2, would be appreciated by the family.

To Judy Brenda Andrew: What a beautiful tribute to Dave. Our thoughts are with you and I think together you will be alright. Jim and I were so fortunate to have the Ellis's move in across the street. Little did we know that down the road we would become good friends and share so many laughs together. Dave told Jim if he ever needed help just ask. Of course Jim asked do not want to count how many times. One thing I need to mention was Dave's sense of humor so much fun to be around . Dear Judy and Family. Condolences on your loss. I knew Dave only briefly through hockey. He was a great team mate and respected by all the players in our H&P League.
Please accept our deepest heartfelt sympathy on the passing of Dave. Words cannot express the deep sense of loss which Larry and I share with you his family. Dave was a man who was admired and respected by everyone who knew him. His greatest attribute, which we observed, was his deep, tremendous devotion to his beloved family. Dear Judy, Brenda, Andrew and Families. Words cannot Express how Sorry we are for the Loss of David, a Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. David inspired and touched so many People's lives and was always their to Lend a Helping Hand to who ever needed it. David had many Loves, his Love for Life, for his Family and Friends, for Fishing and Hunting, Hockey, Travelling and Working with his Hands. To Judy, Andrew and Brenda We have lost an exceptional friend/relative and loving family man in David. He was the perfect epitome for the word good. Geography and medical issues have prevented us from spending as much time with David and Judy over the years as we would have liked but our times shared together were very special with lots of laughs and good times. Dave was to play with our Huff and Puff squad this past year (2016 - 2017). He was able to come out and join us a few times for breakfast, skated around in the warmup, hoping to play after Christmas if his health improved. This did not happen, obviously. I am very sorry that this ended so tragically and offer my condolences to his family and friends. Peter Angus

My sympathies on losing Dave. Many may not be aware of Dave's past when he spent an evening each week of the Winter wearing pink? We played together for several seasons on the Pink Flamingo's hockey team. He clearly loved playing the game and then laughing about it afterwards with his team mates. A gentleman on all occasions.

We were so fortunate to have had Dave and Judy for our next door neighbours for over 30 years. Always willing give advice, lend a hand or share a nip of Drambuie in the workshop, Dave was everything one could wish for in a friend and a neighbour. There are so many places in our home where we see the touch of his hand. We, and indeed, our children, benefitted so much and learned so much from this gentle man. Dearest Judy, Brenda, Andrew and families, Our thoughts and prayers are with you on this difficult day. We hope that all of the wonderful memories that Dave has left you with, will help your hearts heal in the coming months. As you remember and talk about Dave, the pain will never completely go away but the smiles and laughter will return. We will forever remember David as the smiling and happy man who was always there to lend a helping hand, including taking our VW beetle apart on the picnic table and returning it to a working vehicle, 35 years ago. We are with you in thought today and in the difficult time ahead.
