Passed peacefully at home, on Thursday, March 26, 2020, in her 58th year. Loving wife and best friend of Peter. Cherished mother of Sarah. Preceded in death by her beloved mother Betty Bloomer (2002). Sorrowfully missed by her father David H. Bloomer (Eva), of Alliston. Fondly remembered as ‘Nisey’, the devoted sister of David A. Bloomer, Dianne Ospreay and Donna (Rob) Nolan. Cherished sister-in-law of Chris (Eleatha), Matt (Michelle), Evelyn, Elizabeth (Ed), Dorothy (Garth), Marcia (Fraser) and Paul (Carrie). Lovingly remembered by many nephews, nieces, and family and friends across Canada, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Denise was born in Downsview, grew up in Schomberg and attended the University of Toronto. She was a dedicated clinical pharmacist, first at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and then, Children’s Hospital – London Health Sciences Centre, specializing in Paediatric Oncology. In 2018, she was recognised for her substantial contribution to the childhood cancer care community in Ontario. Denise was a woman of great humour, great strength and great heart. Quick with a joke, a hug, or a little gift; her spirit touched the patients she cared for, their families, the people she worked with and all those she met. A passionate baker, Denise created Bakers for a Cause, an informal group of family, friends, and neighbours to produce hundreds of pies, loaves, cakes and cookies in marathon days to support a variety of charities. Denise loved the outdoors, whether it was canoeing and camping in Algonquin Park, hiking the Bruce Trail, cycling routes around Ontario and beyond, or simply enjoying the sun, sand and waves at Woodland Beach. A private service will be held, with a celebration of her life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers and due to an allergy, the family requests and would appreciate donations in memory of Denise be made to Childcan or Children’s Health Foundation.

I was blessed to have known Denise and her beautiful family through my friendship with Donna. The Bloomer residence was my 2nd home. The memories and laughter in that bungalo on hwy 9 in Schomberg with Dave, Betty, David, Dianne , Denise and Donna I will always cherish, welcoming me into their home no matter what time it was. I remember Denise always such a joy in the kitchen! We had great times at Woodland Beach together. Denise always watching over her little sis on the beach. My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I met Denise through a friend at a pediatric oncology conference many years ago. She became a great colleague to share and discuss pharmacy issues. She has always been kind and helpful. I will miss her.

There are no words to describe the sadness I feel at the loss of Denise. I can only reconcile the loss by believing God has recalled an angel to help where there is a more pressing need. Her suffering was short because we knew and recognized what a special person she was. We are grateful Denise was a part of our lives, for the wonderful partner she was for Pete, and the loving mother for Sarah. We are grateful for the charity work she did and being able to participate in Bakers for a Cause with her and Pete. I am grateful for her support and encouragement through my cough and back issues. We will miss her texts asking how we were, her sense of humour, her generosity, and cycling with her. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with everyone who knew her, especially Pete, Sarah, and Denise's family, as you grieve for her.

Sorry for your loss Pete and Sarah. Denise was a great lady. She had a quick wit and enjoyed a good joke. She was always smiling and pitching in at family events. I am certainly glad that I was able to know her, if only for a short time. She will be missed and not forgotten. We can all be as strong as she was and support each other during this difficult time. I feel blessed to have known Denise as a co worker and also as a friend. From supporting her baking efforts to meeting up unplanned at a buttertart festival and getting great advice on the best tarts to try! to watching her give her all at work. Her kind and caring ways were always appreciated. Always looking out for others. Her support to me meant so much.
