I have many fond memories of Doug dating back to our days at school .I recall buying him his first 2 wheel bike . Many times he talked about me teaching him to drive in my 32 Chev. That seemed to be high on list of accomplishments in his younger years. Doug and I shared many experiences from flying in their plane many times to helping out with his Hardware store in Port Elgin. Joyce and I travelled on 2 occasions with Doug And Lorraine to Aruba for a holiday which in some ways was a highlight in our lives. For the last twenty years or so , Doug and Lorraine lived here in London , and only about 10 minutes away, so we got to do a lot of things that brothers do , such as attending car shows, air shows etc.. This has been quite a year and we will miss him dearly. On the brighter side it is extremely good to know that he is now at peace with the Lord and free of the pain he was enduring. We know he will be visiting with our dear Mom and Dad along with Lorraine. God Bless our brother Doug.
As the baby sister in the family, I was always well defended and protected by my three big brothers, but my fondest memories of Doug are when I'd help him wash and clean his first and following cars on a Saturday morning. As a reward, he would often take me swimming, or to a Matinee at the Odeon Theatre in Toronto. He was always overly generous and loving and his nickname for me of "little mouse" has stuck with me my whole life by all my brothers. On visits back East, I enjoyed flying in his Cessna airplane from Toronto Island Airport to his former home in Port Elgin to spend time with Doug and his dear wife, Lorraine. Don and I are deeply saddened by Doug's passing so soon after Lorraine, for whom he cared so lovingly. especially during the last few years of her difficult disease. We are so thankful to "Major Will" and eldest brother Ray for the time they spent with Doug, especially in hospital, where he accepted the Lord; and we know that he has now been reunited with our dear Mom and Dad and the love of his life, Lorraine, as well as all of our large extended family who have gone on before us. Special love to brother, Ray, and wife, Joyce, for all their love and attention to Doug's day-to-day needs during his illness. We love you so much, Doug, and your kind, gentle spirit will remain in our hearts forever. God Bless you, dear brother, Doug. Sister Val (Don) Gill, Victoria, BC
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time. Take comfort in knowing that he has now reunited with his loved ones. May you rest in peace, cousin Doug. Cousin Nancy
Dear Val, Murray, Ray and families, Please know that our prayers are with all of you at this time of such great loss and sadness. Reading the memorials for Loraine in the spring, I learned what a caring, loving soul Doug was for his wife. He is in heaven now and no doubt looking after Lorraine. God Bless Doug. He is also with his mother, my Auntie Mil, who visited our home often for my Mother's outstanding roast beef dinners. Auntie Mil was a true lady, soft spoken, caring, always putting other people before her own needs. Losing your father, Albert, when all of you were so young, your Mother stepping up to the responsibility of raising four young children, on her own, and all of you to overcome and grow to make your parents so very proud, all I can say is AWESOME. At this time of such great sadness, I hope you hold dear all of your memories of each other, and I hope these wonderful memories will keep you strong. Love you Cousin Marilyn Lewin
Dear Val & Don, Ray & Joyce, Murray & Fairie & families, Our deepest & sincere sympathy for a much loved Brother. Doug was such a kind & gentle soul. His love & devotion to Lorraine & his family & friends, was endless. There is a special place in Heaven for such a loving, generous heart, right next to all his Family Members. Doug was very blessed to have such a caring & loving family. The world will be a lesser place without him. Doug, Rest In Peace xo xo xo Cousin Bev & (Don) Misner & family - Port Perry, ON & Uncle George Craddock - Burlington, ON
Dear Uncle Don, Aunt Val, & Maggie, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I never got to meet Doug but from reading the comments left he seemed to be a very wonderful man. Bless you all & may you feel at peace knowing how beautiful the next place after this one is. May we all meet again one day!
I feel so privileged to be part of such an amazing family and legacy. My uncle Doug was someone who always made me feel so special. We had a common love for cats and he always asked about my 'critters' every time we were together. My earliest memories were of his little ginger cat Sandy, and of course our visits to Michigan where he and auntie Lorraine spoiled me with special toys we could not get in Canada, and always with such love! I remember visiting Port Elgin as a teen and him taking me for a 'spin' in his little cesna plane when I was clearly terrified... We laughed so much....and after it was all over it was an incredible experience I will cherish forever! He was also so very proud of my accomplishments with my little craft business and allowed me to market my products in his home hardware store. Such a great little town that was also very proud of him. When I took my own children to visit he also spoiled them with gifts and love. The last few years in London were also special as both auntie Lorraine and uncle Doug became closer to my mom and dad and we got to see them a little more often and every time it was with such affection and pride that I would receive that hug and adoration from my uncle Doug...and thankfully I was able to visit him in the hospital to say my goodbyes and receive the blessing once again. May you finally rest in peace uncle Doug with the love of your life! Give auntie Lorraine a big hug for me and grandma too!! I am so thankful and proud of my amazing dad (Ray) for ALL your loving care to your little brother. He loved you dearly. To Dad and Mom, uncle Murray and aunt Fairie, and auntie val and uncle Don, our deepest sympathy and love to you all. May you all receive great comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and you will be reunited with him once again! With much love and many blessings, Cindy, Cam, Heather, DJ, Rachel Alexander and Riley, Kristin, Matt, Levi Brynlee and Emileigh. xoxo
Dear Val and Don, Ray and Joyce, Murray and Fairie and families: Our sincere sympathy is extended to all of you at this very sad time. Steve's memories of Doug include visiting him in Port Elgin when he owned the Home Hardware store and admiring his classic Lincoln. Steve also remembers times shared at Christmas, always receiving a special book from Auntie Mil. Christmas cards exchanged with Doug and Lorraine kept us in touch and shared news about our families. Doug was a kind and gentle soul who will be remembered for his devotion to Lorraine. May they be together in eternity, reunited with those who have gone before. When a loved one dies, they are never truly gone from you. "Breathe. Listen for my footfall in your heart. I am not gone but merely walk within you." [Nicolas Evans] Steve and Ainsley Lewin \\\\\\

To the Families of Doug Lewin Please accept our deepest condolences to such a Wonderful Person. I was very privileged to have worked for Doug and Lorraine and Aunt May at their Home Hardware Store on the Main Street of Port Elgin (1977-1980) They became my friends more than employers. Doug spoke at our wedding and Lorraine's brother Barry was our photographer. I got to spend some time with Doug at Lorraine's memorial, which I will treasure. Sincerely, Gail (Collins) Ashton (Port Elgin)

As a child I remember Uncle Doug as being a fun loving, caring person who always went the extra mile for others whether they were family, friends or just people who walked through his life. My Mom often talked about her big brother Doug throughout the years, and I could tell from the warmth and tenderness and love in her words just how great a brother/man/person Doug Lewin was. You will be missed Uncle Doug, by your brothers and sister as well as you nieces and nephews and extended family. May your journey to Heaven be a wonderful one, and give you the peace and serenity you so richly deserve. Grandma and Aunt Lorraine are waiting for you with open arms. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Love Marilyn "Maggie" Lee (niece -Atchison, KS) Mike and Rob Ryan (great nephews- London, ON)
