What was most memorable to me about Doug Marshall, was the humble way in which he brought value to the world. Despite his knack for making connections and his many achievements, my grandfather carried selfless modesty across many circumstances. Doug Marshall deeply enjoyed the company of his family. His goal was to continually strengthen the family the bond; and did so by planning get-togethers, making consistent phone calls, and sharing life stories. He was generous as well. Doug often gave meaningful gifts that aligned with the interests of various family members, as well as with his own. In my final phone call with Doug, he wished that we all maintained familial ties through group activities and active efforts to keep in touch. As his granddaughter, I admire his words and hope to bring this part of him with me. My grandfather didn't often mention his basketball or golf days. He had only that he hoped that my siblings, cousins and I would play from time to time. His achievements while playing on the McMaster Marauder basketball team, coaching afterwards, playing golf and being involved in many golf events are impressive and inspiring. What was even less known about him, was his ability to draw. A long time ago, he showed us a page with a strikingly accurate portrait of my cousins, brother and I. The family still cherishes its creative value today. With my own art, I hope to emulate the way in which he captures people on a page. Doug Marshall was a loving, accomplished and personable man. He was the best grandpa that one could ask for, and those that knew him will remember him forever.

Mr. Marshall was my first golf coach at Westminster High School London. He was a fantastic person, great coach and highly respected by his peers and students. Wish I could have played one last game of golf with my old golf coach, but have no doubt, he is about to tee it up at Heaven's Gate! Rest in peace Mr. Marshall. Dave Velanoff

Doug Marshall, also my grandfather was the kindest, sweetest, and most inspirational soul. He inspired me to keep working hard, eating well, and be the best person of myself as he was his. He was intelligent and full of many important skills and histories that I was fascinated by and brag to others about as I cherish them truly. I was so interested in his life with him growing up, pursuing basketball, and his love for jazz music as he taught me everything I know. Thank you for the hugs. Thank you for the love. Thank you for being one of my favourite people. Thank you for the support. Thank you for the smiles that you brought on to me. And thank you for being you. I love you infinitely grandpa. Natalia <3

Great memories of playing basketball with Scott at Banting with Mr Marshall as our coach. He loved the game but never once referenced his own playing days. Google Doug Marshall McMaster basketball... a very modest man. My sympathies and fond memories extended to Scott, Johanne and Mrs Marshall.

I am saddened to hear of Doug's passing. As many others have noted Doug had a wide sphere of influence as an exemplary teacher, coach and mentor at Westminster Seconday School. My condolences to Margaret and family. Barry Moncrieff

Mr. Marshall , remembered from the 60's as a great coach . A seemingly contented man as he never accepted or promoted fan fare, he strived to improve his athletes by quietly allowing them to make mistakes before showing his little grin and commenting on improvements that were tailored to, and possible, for the individual. No one sat on his bench for long, if you were overmatched on the A squad he would start a B squad to allow competition for all. Recently communicated through golf and found Mr. Doug Marshall to be the same considerate man. I played BB for Mr. Marshal on the C squad. My condolences to his family

Remembering the many good times our families had at Olympia Sports Camp. Also remembering golfing with Doug and Marg. What a great golfer!

Known for a man of his firm principles and consistent opinions, Doug was the best grandfather a grandson could ask for. He always showed a strong interest in all of the generations of the family and continued to support me on a yearly basis in more ways than one till his final year. He was a kind soul that didn’t deserve his health challenges and words can’t describe how I am feeling since his passing. I will never forget him.

Doug, was a very special man, with strong ideas and a good heart. I, forever be thankful for the warmth welcome into his family, for the guidance and love he gave to my children, his grandchildren and to myself when I was younger. I enjoyed multiple vivid conversations with him, on politics, music or sports, in which he recounted interesting stories that attested to his superb memory. He was a great listener too, sometimes surprising us with small gifts related to an interest or hobby shared in a casual conversation, maybe a record or a magazine. He was also a good organizer of events and the unifying force of his family. Rest In Peace Doug, I will always keep you in my memories
