Dr. Craig Stewart Finnigan

Suddenly in British Columbia on Thursday, January 30th, 2014, in his 46th year. Beloved father of Sean and Tess. Craig’s children were his deepest source of joy and love: he had so many plans for them! Left with a lifetime of memories are his devoted mother Jean Pratt and his cherished brother Ross Finnigan. Sadly missed by many relatives, friends and colleagues. Predeceased by his father Terry Finnigan. Craig loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed music, hockey, all things outdoors, and was a wonderful cook. After receiving Bachelor and Masters degrees from the University of Western Ontario, Craig earned his Ph.D. in Geology at the University of Toronto. His work as an exploration geologist in gold, platinum and nickel discovery projects (in Alaska, Nevada, Wyoming, Labrador, Ontario, the Northwest Territories and, most recently, the Yukon) was honoured when, in January 2014, he was named co-recipient of the prestigious H.H. “Spud” Huestis award for excellence in Mineral Exploration and Prospecting. Memorial visitation will be held at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, February 14th, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Farewell to an old friend...always remembered. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Craig’s laughter, enthusiasm and love of life got taken away from all of us way too early. And so suddenly. My most sincere condolences to the Family especially to Sean and Tess. Your Dad will always be in our hearts. Craig, friends like you are very hard to find and impossible to replace. Thank you for being one for so many years. One Love!

We were deeply shocked and greatly saddened to hear of Craig's passing, so suddenly and so young. I'll never forget Craig's constant warmth, sense of humour and enthusiasm. Craig was the kind of guy always willing to help everybody else. He constantly spoke about his family, and we shared many stories about our mutual love for music and how we shared that joy with our kids. I will cherish my memories working with Craig in the Yukon; what a highlight of our careers! I was very proud to share the exploration award with Craig and our other team members the night before his passing. When accepting his award Craig beamed with pride about that little moment of public recognition for the many years of hard work in the bush and his contribution to the industry and in a wider sense to his country. Craig, you'll be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with you. Sean and Tess, know that you will always carry him in your hearts forever and in that way Dad will always be there when you need him.
Dale and I were very shocked and sadden to hear about Craig's passing. We will miss Craig's big smile and welcoming nature. It will not be the same without Craig in our lives. He was always full of smiles, good wishes and just wanted everyone to be happy. He loved you guys very much. In our crazy teenage years, I remember thinking how lucky he was to have such a great family and homelife. You must be so proud of everything he accomplished in his 46 years. the world is a quieter and smaller place without Craig, his huge voice and even bigger smile. enthusiasm for life like Craig's is not common and cannot be faked. he will be missed. my deepest condolences to his family.
