Dr. Euril (‘Clyde’ or ‘Tim’) McLaurence Glasgow
June 3, 2023
Dr. Euril (“Clyde” or “Tim”) McLaurence Glasgow, 78, went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2023, in London, Ontario. He was comforted by his wife Claudette.
Clyde was born in Paradise Village, East Coast Demerara, Guyana to the late Tryphena (Douglas) Glasgow and Edmund Glasgow. He was the second of seven children: Ovid, Andrew (deceased), Keith (deceased), Maureen, Carol, and John.
At the age of 14, Clyde became a teacher at St. Andrew School in Cove and John. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Claudette Benn, a nursing student. They married in 1969 and immigrated to New York City where Clyde continued his pursuit of education at Queens College. Opportunities in Canada then called, and the couple moved to Toronto, Canada.
Clyde earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from McMaster University, a Bachelor of Education Degree from York University, a Master of Education Degree from Niagara University, a Specialist Certificate in Educational Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Administration from the State University of New York University at Buffalo.
Although education was an integral part of Clyde’s life, his family was his joy. Clyde and Claudette had three children: Euril Jr.; Marcia and Abena, and two grandsons, Bristol, and Cornelius. Clyde enjoyed vacations that took the family by car across Canada and the United States.
Clyde taught with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board for 18 years starting at St. Lawrence Catholic Elementary School. He later became a Vice Principal with the London District Catholic School Board at Sir Arthur Carty Catholic Elementary School. He served on the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario for ten years as a committee member and chair. He was awarded with the Outstanding Award for Professional Development by the Catholic Principals’ Council.
Clyde was seconded to the role of Education Officer for the Ministry of Education, Instructional and Leadership Division. He advised five premiers of Ontario.
Clyde was a Councilor at the Ontario College of Teachers where he was a member of the Accreditation and Standards of Practice Committees and the chair of the Quality Assurance Committee. He was instrumental in the development of the current Ontario Teacher Performance Appraisal System and served as the contact Education Officer for the Ministry as Provider of Professional Learning Programs for teachers and school administrators.
Clyde was an avid sportsperson. As a youth, his athletic interests included track and cycling, but most he was a lover of the sport of cricket. He excelled as a batter and a bowler and won several cricket trophies. Locally, he was the manager of the Woodstock Cricket Club.
Even in retirement, Clyde was of service to others. He volunteered at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre in London, Ontario, was a member of the West Indian American Association of Michigan, and supported organizations whose goals were to create educational equity and student success for children and youth locally and in the Caribbean. He was also an active member of St. Justin’s Parish in London as head usher.
Clyde will be remembered for his kindness, leadership, and effervescent personality. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and those whose lives he touched.
The visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Justin’s Parish, 855 Jalna Boulevard, London, Ontario on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., with visitation at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street, London, Ontario following the Funeral Mass.

May your soul rest in peace
I met Clyde through another Guyanese, the late Gerry Bayley when Clyde joined the London and District Science Fair Committee. What immediately impressed me about Clyde was his big smile, wit and effervescent personality. The world is a better place because Clyde was here. We grieve our loss but not without hope so we have reason to celebrate his life.
Wishing you all comfort and remembering the kind spirit that was your husband, father and sibling. Our condolences for your loss. If there wasn’t so much love, it wouldn’t be this hard to say goodbye. Our thoughts are with you all. There’s nothing to say to ease the loss of a loved one. But we are here for you all and send our deepest sympathy to wife Claudette and children, siblings Ovid, Maureen, Carol and John. May you all find peace and comfort in his memory.
