Dear Jodie, Words cannot express what a great loss this is. I had the fantastic opportunity to be able to see Dr. Roth both as a professional and through your eyes as a father. At work he was so dedicated and professional, and loved by his staff. I will miss passing him in the hallway and stopping him for updates on how you are doing (which he was always happy and proud to give!) Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

~ Michelle Fredette-Carragher

Kristie, I wanted to send my deepest condolences to you and your family. I've been thinking of you all so much and was so sorry to hear the news.

~ Mollie Rose (Morant)

Our hearts go out to Dr. Roth's family. Our prayers are with you. Dr. Roth was a great man and a fantastic Doctor. I travelled from Northern Ontario to see him, and would have travelled from the coast just to have him take care of me. He was always so cheerful, smiling and compasionate. He made such a difference in our lives and for that we will always be grateful. We talked about our kids and grand kids, and it always brought a twinkle to his eyes. I got to feeling like he was family, I saw him so much. We will miss him.The world is a far better place having had Dr. Roth as part of it. Patricia & Ed Malec

We are both saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Roth. We wish to convey to you and your family our sincerest condolences. Dr.Roth played a large part in my life by releasing me from immeasurable pain in both my hands with his exceptional care and surgical skill. His love of films was a joy to him. We often talked together about films that we had viewed recently sometimes even while he was operating on my hands in the OR. His deep understanding of pain and suffering was important to him as was his caring need to alleviate such pain and suffering. We will keep you and family in our thoughts and prayers. A grateful patient. James McDermott

Barb, Jodie, Sandie, Kristie and Kelly, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. The news of Jim's passing was such a shock. He was a wonderful father, husband and doctor and has had a profound impact on many, many lives. It has been my pleasure to know you all over many years. It has been a while since I have seen you but please know that you are always in my thoughts. Love to all.

~ Carole Robinson

Kristie and family, so sad to hear of your loss. We are all thinking of you.

~ Susan Smith

Dear Barb and family, Judy and I are deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Jim's passing. I first remember Jim as one of Dr. Kennedy's prized students. Thereafter, the amazing work and personal care he provided for so many of our Mustang players was unique and invaluable. His loyal support and passion for Western football was treasured by all within the football family. What is it they say about 'the brightest stars and their short lifespan?' Jim leaves a legacy of achievement that few can match and a family that will forever be blessed by his love. Judy and I are out of Country and unable to be in attendance today and Wednesday. Know that we are there in spirit and our prayers are with you.

~ Larry and Judy Haylor

I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Roth. I had the opportunity and pleasure to work with him as a medical student. He was a great man and educator. He will be greatly missed by many. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family that he talked about so often.

~ Jonathan Keys

It is with great sorrow that I write these words to you. When I recently heard the news that Dr. Roth had passed away I was shocked. I couldn't believe that such a gentle soul who truly cared for everyone around him was no longer here. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends & colleagues. I've known Dr. Roth for many years as I have rheumatoid arthritis & he did many operations on my hand. Every time I went to see him he always took the time to listen to my concerns & never rushed in & out like other surgeons I've seen. He was a very compassionate man & I'm sure his patients will miss him greatly. You are in my thoughts & prayers during this very difficult time.

~ Michele Chauvin

Sandie and Jon and to the extended members or your family you have our deepest sympathies at your time of loss. Dick and Teri Wuytenburg

~ Dick Wuytenburg

We wish to express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Roth and family. Like many others, I was very fortunate to have had the privilege of knowing and learning from Dr. Roth. He was an amazing mentor; he leaves behind an impressive legacy which will always be remembered.

~ J Pollock and family

What a loss for us all. Jim was a role model as a physician and caregiver for myself as well as many of the students we jointly taught over the years. His role and position in London will likely never be filled to the fullness Jim brought to the profession. His loss has left a void and is felt deeply by many. We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.

~ Walt Romano & Family

I always enjoyed watching Dr. Roth with his family; the way he cherished his girls and Barb so much was not something you could ignore. I first had the privilege of meeting Dr. Roth when he visited his daughter Jodie at Queens. Dr. Roth was always so kind to her friends; I have many fond memories of Barb and Dr. Roth's visits (they would always treat all of Jodie's housemates to a dinner out each time they visited); we all looked so forward to their visits. I am truly sorry for your immeasurable loss. I know your Dad will be missed greatly by so many. What a gift he has left for his daughters, as his most special traits are passed on to those he loved so dearly. Please accept our deepest sympathies at this difficult time.

~ Alison and Scott Charlton

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Roth. What an amazing man who influenced so many people in our field. His passion for orthopedics, athletics, and life was inspiring. He will be missed the world-round. My sympathies to the family and everyone at the HULC.

Hello Kristie and family, I was so sorry to hear of your dad's loss. I am sure this is an incredibly difficult time for all of you. As you know Jamie and I would not have met without the HULC clinic, so we owe your dad a debt of gratitude like so many. Please know that my thoughts are with you these last few days and particularly tonight.

~ Christine Guptill

Dear Barb and family We were deeply saddened and shocked at the news of Jim's passing. Having played on the offensive line with Jim during our championship year in 1971, I shared with him the joy and enrichment of a band of brothers. He was one-in-a-million. As with others who have written here, we also experienced Jim's generosity of self on many occasions. He was never too busy to give his personal and professional time, interest and skill to myself and our family when we occasionally were in need. Our family sends our hopes and prayers that you will be comforted at this difficult time by our personal remembrances of Jim.

~ Rob and Joan Martin

Dear Barb and Girls: I wanted you to know how much all of Jim's old Mustang teamates valued him as a friend, player and teamate when we played together and when he became a renowned physician and resource to us when any of us were injured in the various pursuits we enjoyed post football. Jim's kindness to all of us, our families, and friends was only exceeded by his humility. His passing is a terrible loss to all of us and the thousands of patients he treated, residents he mentored, and most importantly, the irreplaceable husband, father and grandfather he was to you and yours. Unfortunately DeeDee is out of the Country at this time but she sends her thoughts and prayers to you, Barb, and the girls. I, fortunately, will be there to say good bye personally. Love Ray and DeeDee

~ Ray and DeeDee Leach

Sandie, Jodie, Kristie, Kelly and Barb - you have been like a second family for me as long as I can remember. I remember helping you move into the new HULC when Sand and I were in high school. I am just devastated by the news and cannot wait to return to London and hug each of you. Your dad was amazing, helping both my mom and grandma - they are both so grateful for his expertise. Please be certain Drew and I and my family are thinking of you and wishing you nothing but love and peace.

~ Jenny Sanderson Rixon

I'm so sorry to hear that Dr.Roth has passed away. He was my friend and surgeon for over the last 25 years. My deepest condolences to the family. Dr. Roth was a generous and excellent teacher. When I was a new resident rotating on the HULC service, he went out of his way to welcome me to ensure a good educational experience. After knowing me all of 5 minutes, he got me a locker and lent me his own surgical loupes. In the following years I observed the leadership of a man who cared about everyone on his team.

~ Haemi Lee

Barb, I was away on vacation overseas and when I returned I learned about the death of Jim. I am greatly saddened by it and express my condolences to you and your family. I met Jim back in Mustang Training Camp my first year at Western and always thought the most of him. He was a great guy and was what I have always called "one of the good guys". I always made a point of having a discussion with him whenever the team got together over the years, whether at Homecoming or one reunion or another. I always got some good info out of him or interesting (or hilarious) story (the Peter Quigley bicycle crash - my favourite). It is obvious from the emails that I have read from the 71 Team and others what a force he was. I wish you my best, Dave Kerr (St. Catharines)

I remember fondly the early 80's when Dr.Roth came to Victoria Hospital after his time spent at "Duke" He worked tirelessly night and day in his early career and was eager to develop his skills with hands and upper limb. He will be missed. My thoughts for his family.

My codolences to the family of Dr Roth. Over 20 years ago when the HULC was in its infancy in the old part of St Joes, I came there with a broken wrist from a sports injury. Dr Roth and Dr Richards said they could fix my wrist with some radical surgery. If it didn`t work my wrist would have to be fused. Whatever they did was like a miracle to me. About 6 weeks after the surgery I was able to throw a balland today I still play. What ever they was brilliant and to this day I am ad will be forever grateful to Dr Roth. He truly was a hero to me.

~ Gary Hawkis

Barb and girls - I was shocked and saddened to hear of Jim's passing. It was a pleasure working with him when he returned from Duke and started with Orthopaedic Associates. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

Dear Roth Family: It is with great shock and sadness that I send my condolences to you. I had the pleasure of being part of the HULC team working with him in the OR. He was an amazing teacher with incredible patience. His face would light up instantly when talking about his daughters, granddaughters and London Knights. Truly a legend for the Hand and Upper Limb Centre and who will ever forget the "Duke Dressing"?

My heartfelt sympathies to the Roth family and all staff who had the opportunity to know such a caring and compassionate man. I was one of Dr. Roths many patients and I am still in shock at his sudden passing as I know you all are. London has lost a great surgeon, but I know he has impacted those who worked closely with him, and they will continue to build on the legacy he has shared with them. Rest in Peace Dr. Roth.

~ Ronalee Porter

My deepest condolences to the Roth family. Dr. Roth's influence and passion for the hand/wrist has helped shape my career and I truly enjoyed working with him. What started off as fear and trepidation quickly turned into respect and admiration. He was a dynamic, strong force and will be remembered fondly.

Dear Barb & Family, It is with great sadness that I have read of Jim's sudden passing. Jim's legacy as a physician will live on forever. But above this was his ability to simply be a gentleman. His unwavering ability to treat everyone to whom he interacted as equals and individuals I will always remember. Working with Dr. Roth to plan, design and then construct the new Hand & Uppper Limb Centre will be a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life. As great as Jim Roth was as an orthopaedic surgeon, he made others feel as big a giant in their respective fields. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with your family Don

Dear Barb and girls, Words cannot express the deep feelings of loss that Susan and I feel at this time. Jim was "one of a kind". His desire to achieve excellence was evident in all facetts of life. He was the ultimate "team player", and his fraternity with his MUSTANG teammates (especially the Offencive Line) was unparalleled. His loyalty to us was evident when our aging bodies were in need of orthopedic repair and renewal. His help extended to our friends and family as well. The sudden loss of Jim, following the loss of Jim Allen and Enzo make us all very aware of how precious life is. May you find some comfort in the knowledge that Jim revered by all of us who had the privilege of being his friend. Gary McNaughton A

Dear Barb and Family, Sue and I send our deepest sympathy to you at the news of Jim's untimely passing. I consider it a great honour to have been one of Jim's original orthopaedic partners in London and from the outset I knew that Jim was destined for an exemplary professional career. He leaves a lasting legacy of clinical and research excellence and accomplishment through the Hand and Upper Limb Centre and the countless number of surgeons he mentored. Sue and I are in South America and regrettably will not be able to join you for the memorial service. I know that you will be buoyed up by countless friends and co-workers who so respected Jim. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
