I’m very fortunate that Mina was my colleague at LHSC. Mina was a talented anesthesiologist, but was a pleasure to work with. She had a way of adding joy to whatever space she was in. Patients, their family members and co-workers all appreciated the positivity and good humour she carried with her. My deepest condolences to her family, friends, loved ones, and colleagues during this difficult time.

I have known Minakshi since childhood, but we were officially introduced when she was in high school. One memory is still fresh in my mind, even though it happened about 15 years ago. One summer weekend, my wife and I were leaving an ice cream parlor when a young woman we didn't recognize approached us and said: “Namaste, Aunty and Uncle, I am Minakshi… Pandit Doobay’s daughter. We don’t often expect this kind of spontaneous, joyful interaction because adolescence can be a difficult and sometimes awkward transition, and pulling away from adults is not uncommon. I marveled at her poise, self-assurance, and radiant smile. I knew then she was extraordinary, and as I followed her journey from undergraduate studies to residency in anesthesia, it became clear she was indeed one of a kind. A couple of years before she entered medical school, Minakshi called me to ask whether she could spend some time in my clinic, hoping to pursue a career in clinical psychology. A few years later, she returned as a medical student to participate in the summer research training program. Her project was on maternal-infant bonding in postpartum depression. I will always cherish the time we spent together. Minakshi was not a passive learner; she actively pursued learning and, in the process, influenced my teaching practice and methods. I remember her saying, “My apologies for so many questions.” She was a deep thinker—someone who dared to ask tough questions and made us question our beliefs and values — someone who took risks to better herself and those around her—and someone who was kind, giving, exuberant, and full of life. She had a wide range of interests, including philosophy, spirituality, the Vedas, the scientific method, and building LEGO robots. I did not see Minakshi much during her residency, but spending time with her was always wonderful—she listened attentively and made others feel like they were the most important people in her life. A life cut short leaves a profound sorrow in our hearts. We will never know why this happened…why a life full of huge potential ended prematurely. So many what-ifs—for her family, for us, and for her patients. To rephrase Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Gone too soon, yet her spirit will remain in the memories we hold dear.” My sincere condolences to Panditji, Shanta ji, Gavindra, and the family. Minakshi will be missed.

Having a hard time finding words to say, a young person with so much potential, gone too soon. In the years we worked closely together, as a peer, as a student, as a mentor, it was rewarding to see how much Mina grew in those years. She had a way of making friends wherever she went. Ambitious, full of energy, deeply caring for those around her, that's how I will always remember her. She will be deeply missed, and I hope that the memories of the person she was and the lives she touched bring some comfort to those who loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with Mina and with her family as they go through this unimaginably difficult time.

~ Rahma

Mina, You were such a wonderful person, bringing joy to every room you were in. You were a sister, daughter, and best friend that gave us support and care when needed it the most. We love you so much, and miss you dearly. Anil, Heemal, Aneesh, Radhika, Anmol, Himani, Grandma, Toby, and Zoon

~ Dhar Family

I did not know Mina but heard of this tragedy through word of mouth as all of us who train residents in Anesthesia programs across the country share a common concern for the well-being of our students. Although I know nothing of the events leading up to this or the personal struggles she was dealing with, it is clear from the tributes that Mina was a warm caring person and was full of potential. I can only hope that the people who she touched can find a way to deal with this loss and remember her life as a gift that they will always carry with them. My sincere condolences to all of Mina’s family, friends and coworkers.

~ Dr. Ian Dobson

I first met Mina shortly after my dear friend Himani started med school with her in 2019. Her warm smile and caring personality was infectious and she quickly became a friend of mine as well. When the pandemic arrived the next year, I found myself in a very dark place and felt like everything I had been working towards had fallen apart. I was living in Toronto at the time and Himani and Mina invited me down to London to stay with them for a while. During the week I spent with them, Mina showered me with love and support. From deep conversations over tea, to masked up grocery runs, and cozy nights curled up on the couch together, she did everything she could to make me feel better. By the end of the week I felt reinvigorated and ready to take on the struggles ahead. She was a bright light in a time where everything felt dark and I will always be so grateful for her love and friendship. My deepest condolences to all of Mina's family and friends. We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.

~ Justine Vermey

Mina's smile would fill a whole room. She loved unconditionally and with all her heart. Over seven years ago when I first met Mina, she invited me to her birthday pooja, we took group photos by the stairs in her family's house, the next day we had the most delicious chai that her parents made us, and we talked for hours about our dreams for the future. I'll always remember how welcoming Mina was, her ambition, and her compassion. To be her friend is a joy I'll cherish forever. My condolences to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time, may you find solace in your grief. 🩷

We are saddened by this untimely passing and express our deepest sympathy. May the compassionate Lord comfort her family and friends and colleagues.

Dear Pandit ji and Shanta ji, We are so deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved and beautiful Minakshi. She was more than a resident in training, she was a source of hope to her patients and an inspiration to those around her. Our hearts are with you. ~ Ladi and Desh Malhotra

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this incredibly difficult time. Mina was a truly wonderful person and an outstanding physician. I feel very fortunate to have known her and to have watched her grow into such a thoughtful, compassionate, and talented anesthesiologist. She had a warmth and kindness about her that touched so many of us, and she genuinely cared about her patients and the people she worked with. Mina was such a joyful and bubbly presence in the OR. She brought kindness, laughter, and positivity to every room she walked into and was truly a wonderful teammate. She cared deeply for her patients and made a meaningful difference in so many lives through the compassion and dedication she brought to her work. It was always a pleasure to work with her, and she will be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.

~ Laura De Luca

I was devastated to hear about Mina and I’m struggling to comprehend that she is gone. We were part of the same friend group for several years in grade school and I remember her so vividly as bright, bubbly, funny, and completely full of life. It feels impossible to reconcile those memories with this loss. I’m deeply grateful for the years I knew her and for the memories I still carry from that time. My heart goes out to her family and to everyone who loved her.

~ Madhavi Mohan

My dear friends Shanta and Deoji. My heart goes out to you. No parent should have to experience such a tremendous loss. Dear Dev and Shanta, Ann and I were heartbroken to hear about the passing of your dear Mina. There really are no words that can express how sorry we are for the loss of your beloved daughter. I still remember meeting Mina when she was just five years old. Over the past twenty-five years, I had the privilege of watching that little girl grow into a wonderful young woman. It seems like only yesterday that she was that sweet little child, and then, before we knew it, she had grown up, graduated from medical school, and gone on to specialize in anesthesiology. You both had every reason to be so proud of her. But what stands out to me most is not only what she accomplished, but who she was. Mina was always so polite, kind and friendly. She had a warmth about her that made it easy to like her, and I will always remember her with great affection. To lose a child is a pain that is impossible to put into words. My heart goes out to both of you. I hope, with time, that the wonderful memories of Mina—from that little five-year-old girl I first met to the accomplished woman she became—will bring you some comfort and help you through this unimaginable loss. Please know that you are both very much in our thoughts and prayers. We are sending you our love, our deepest sympathy, and a heartfelt embrace during this incredibly difficult time. With love and deepest condolences, Ann and Randolph

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Doobay family and friends on the loss of Meenakshy Doobay at such a tender age. We have known Meenakshi closely since her birth as a happy child !. As a newborn, she was blessed by Swami Pramathananda, a saintly monk, heading the Vedanta Society of Toronto. As she grew up, she was adored by all because of her lovely and friendly nature. At Western, I (Peeyush) knew her as a very bright and humble student, who aspired to be a good doctor! She developed a level of spirituality, nurtured by her parents and grandfather-- rarely seen at her age. May her soul rest in peace and eternal bliss, sheltered by the Divine. We pray that Panditji and Shantaji find solace in her fond memories! Om Shantih, Om Shantih, Om Shantih!

Dear Shanta Ji, Pandi Doobay Ji, and Gavindra, It is difficult to find words that can express the sorrow I feel for your family. Please know that I am thinking of you and am here to support you in any way I can during this incredibly difficult time. I have known Minakshi for so many years, and it is still so hard to believe that she is no longer with us. I watched her grow up alongside our children — from Bal Vihar, to the youth group, and through Central. Minakshi had a quiet warmth about her that touched everyone who knew her. She had a beautiful spirit that will never be forgotten. Though no words can ease the pain of losing someone so dearly loved, I hope that the love and support of family and friends, together with the many beautiful memories of Minakshi, will bring you some comfort and strength in the days ahead. Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. My thoughts, prayers, and love are with you, Gavindra, and your entire family during this profoundly difficult time. Anila

~ Anila Chandran

We have known Minakshi since she was a little girl in elementary school. Our daughters and Minakshi grew up together through Bal Vikas and the Youth Group at the Mandir in London, and we watched her blossom into a gentle, thoughtful, and compassionate young woman. Meeting her and Gav at the gym just a month ago and sharing such a warm conversation now feels even more precious. Minakshi had a special way of connecting with people of all ages — always kind, always considerate, always carrying a quiet grace. Her smile and warmth touched everyone around her, and we will miss them dearly. It breaks our hearts that Bhagwan has taken her from us so soon. Our prayers are with her departed soul, and with all of you as you navigate this unimaginable loss. Om Shanthi. Om Shanthi. Om Shanthi.

Our thoughts, prayers and love are with the entire family. Om Shanti.

At this difficult time, please know that our thoughts are with you Aunty Shanta, Uncle Deo and all the family. Losing Mina leaves a space which words can never fill but hopefully you can, in time, find comfort in the love and memories you have of her.

My deepest condolences to all who love Mina. In my role as one of her high school teachers I was privileged to spend time with her within our shared classroom setting. She inspired my admiration for her bravery as a learner and for her thirst for learning. She really was always “a joy to teach” and tremendously unassuming while being academically brilliant. Such a kind young lady with that megawatt smile. I feel so grateful to have experienced her friendship after she graduated out of high school and I learned of her fierce compassion for her fellow humans. I’m sure I am not alone in wishing I could have spent more of our “current” “timeline” visiting with her. 30 years is a cruelly brief lifetime when it limits how many minutes we had to be in her presence. Such kindness, humility & gentleness. I suspect she didn’t consider her own strengths as the ‘superpowers’ they are! Those of us left behind will miss the profoundly authentic and unique spirit of Mina’s. Like many other people might, I got lost in the assumption there is unlimited time to catch up/reconnect with someone who you used to visit with. Now I regret not reaching out to Mina to arrange a visit because it has been years since we last visited. I wish I could visit with her at least one more time for a ‘walk and chat’ outdoors (ok, so yes…🤔 it was usually more of a “stroll” and chat…😆 rather than the fitness walk we intended it to be…) to share/exchange thoughts and enjoy her unconditional acceptance and empathy. Mina, such an awesome conversationalist with that dry, patient wit and sparkling enthusiasm for a life shared with others, in service to her fellow humans. Mina’s exceptional spirit has been an unforgettably positive influence on my own lived experience. Thank YOU Mina for the generous gift of your friendship. Just by being your authentic self you have become a mentor of my spiritual growth as a fellow human. I didn’t notice the learning while it was happening … (I hear your infectious giggle in my memory now because you were aware of this at that same time even when I was not)… Mina, I celebrate your life & legacy. Most Sincerely, Heather MacVoy

A life far too short, but one that touched many through compassion, healing and service. As a young doctor, you had so much more to give, and your passing leaves a profound sense of loss. As the daughter of an exemplary Hindu priest, Pandit Doobay, and Mrs Shantaji Doobay, you were raised in a tradition of service, spirituality and devotion. May the values you inherited and the goodness you shared continue to live through all those whose lives you touched. May your soul find eternal peace, and may your father, Shantaji, and all your loved ones find strength and solace in the beautiful life you lived.
