I have known Dr. Narayanan for the last 40 years as a colleague and a close friend. After he retired, we used to talk every week. He had several health issues but managed them well. His daughters helped him get the care he needed. He was an excellent scientist and trained several researchers. He and his collaborators published several scientific papers. He could explain complicated topics in a simple way and was an excellent teacher. Narayanan was a generous person who tried to help those in need. He worked hard and accomplished many things. He was fully satisfied with a well-lived life. He was proud of his daughters and grandchildren. I am going to miss him. My condolences to Preetham, Sandhya, and the family. RIP, my friend.

It is with the deepest sadness learning of Professor Njanoor Narayanan's passing. I have known him as a friend and colleague at the university for more than three decades and consider him to be a truly outstanding individual. NN, as he was known to friends and colleagues, was a devoted father and a man of exceptional integrity, honesty and ethics, traits which are not always evident in an academic environment. I consulted with him often on both professional and personal matters and he always offered sage, thoughtful and very useful advise for which I have always been grateful. NN was an outstanding scientist with whom I have had the pleasure of collaborating on a number of projects. His research was of the highest quality and made significant and important contributions to our understanding of how the heart cell functions under both normal and disease conditions. One can always have full confidence that results emanating from the Narayanan laboratory were of the highest possible quality and integrity. NN will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to Preetham and Sandhya and all of the family. May his memory be a blessing! Morris Karmazyn PhD, FIACS Fomer Professor Former Canada Research Chair
