Edward ‘Ted’ Eadinger

May 17, 2022

We said goodbye to our much-loved Ted on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in London, Ontario. Beloved husband of Dianne. Devoted Dad to Susan (Ted), Sandy (Mark), Barb (Caspar), Amanda (Dean) and Kirsty (Michael). Proud Grandpa to Katie (Joe), Scott, Edward, Barrett, Emma (Gage), Devon, Jordan, Tanner, Dawson, Finch and Miranda, and very proud Great-Grandpa to Hunter, Charlotte, and Phoebe. Cherished brother-in-law of Jennifer Silverthorne (Rusty).

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1940, Ted was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Christina. Loved by all who knew him, he was a gentleman to the end!

A childhood love of movies spurred Ted’s choice of a career in broadcasting. A radio DJ in Prince Albert at the age of 19, Ted soon moved into television, trying his hand as a children’s host (Captain Jolly), producer and director before joining management. While VP and Station Manager at CFQC Television from 1974 to 1988, he oversaw the transition to computer technology and served as President of the Western Association of Broadcasters. He also helped launch popular community events, including the Louis Riel Relay and the annual TeleMiracle telethon, which continues to generate funds for the Kinsmen Foundation. In 1988, Ted became the VP and General Manager of CFPL in London, a position he held until 1997. In 1994, his contributions to the industry were recognized with the Broadcaster of the Year award from the Central Canada Broadcasters’ Association.

Throughout his life, Ted brought his creativity and enthusiasm to many civic initiatives, serving on the boards of the Saskatoon Exhibition, the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, the London Convention Centre, and Jesse’s Journey (now Defeat Duchenne Canada) and most recently was a member of the City of London’s Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Ted loved painting and drawing, music (everything from show tunes to Willie Nelson), travel, the Blue Jays, all sports (curling, golf, football, bridge, poker), dachshunds, model trains, and anything involving his kids and grandkids! He imparted his curiosity, positivity, and tremendous sense of humour to his family and provided inspiration to us all.

The family wishes to thank the friends who have supported us in the last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted’s memory to Defeat Duchenne Canada (https://defeatduchenne.ca/donate ) would be appreciated.

Very sorry to hear of Ted's passing. Ted, myself and a few other guys used to take trips together and have a lot of fun. We went to Great Falls, Montana, Banff, Calgary and a few other less known places. Very good memories. We also went to the same high school, Bedford Road Collegiate Institute (BRCI) Ted also used to have good parties at his house. fordgr@sasktel.net

I had the pleasure of working with Ted during his involvement with LONDON200 in 1992. He invited us to have our meetings at the CFPL TV station and was generous with promoting the year long events through commercials, etc He was always happy, good natured and open to ideas to help everyone. A very kind man who will be missed.

We came to admire Ted for his love of Family and Community well being.I had the privilege of Volunteering with Ted in Saskatoon for a 5 year period as we organized the 1989 Jeux Canada Games for 3000 young athletes. His creative mind was always on overdrive! We saw him become a broadcast leader who was committed to communicating with the public at every turn. Donna and I had the pleasure of attending numerous Community events with Ted . We extend sincere condolences to Diane and all members of his family

As a kid growing up in Saskatoon I enjoyed watching local programming and participating in community events which Ted was instrumental in creating and producing. Once I grew up and entered the broadcasting field, I had the great honour to work with Ted at CFQC TV. Like so many others I will remember his brilliant mind, calm demeanour, sense of humour, and deep knowledge of broadcasting. My deepest condolences to his family, particularly his daughters.

Ted was indeed a gentleman. I remember Ted as fair and honest "boss" at CFQC when I was a young, aspiring and energetic broadcaster. Although he was the boss, I felt I could talk to Ted about anything, whenever I needed to. And, that greeting smile... always so welcoming. My condolences to the family.

I am very sad to learn of Ted’s passing. He was a caring and fine “boss” and an obviously talented broadcaster. He was a good friend who was instrumental in my advancement through the industry. I was also proud to have been invited by Ted to be a (very small) part of Jesse’s Journey across Canada. I will remember him fondly.

I knew Ted and dealt with him during our Baton Broadcasting TV days. In a business of egos and people a little bit full of themselves, Ted was neither. He was a gentleman, kind, considerate and courteous to everyone. It was an honour and a pleasure to deal with him and to know him. A life well lived. Knowing Ted Eadinger was a highlight of my broadcast career.
