Elizabeth Middleton Tweedie Gloude (nee Leghorn)
March 31, 2020
Died peacefully on March 31, 2020, in her 91st year, at home with her two loving daughters, Janis Blackwell (Owen Sound), and Carolyn Gloude (Toronto) by her side. She is predeceased by her son Raymond (1984). She is cherished by her grandchildren Henry, Claire, Amy and Megan. Betty is predeceased by her sisters Violet Kistler (late Walt), and Jean Sheppard (late Art). She is survived by her brother, Bob Leghorn (Cathy) and sister, Mary Snively (late Don) and by her many nieces and nephews. She was beloved by her many friends.
Betty was born in Bells Hill, Scotland, and after immigrating lived in London and Windsor. She was active in community theatre and choirs, avidly attended exhibitions, theatre, and concerts, was a fiercely competitive bridge player, loved Scrabble and remembered the words to every song written since 1928.
Betty lived life with love and joy. She was kind, gentle and adorably stubborn. All our best memories include food, family, friends, tall tales, laughter, sing-a-longs and many beach picnics at Port Stanley. She brought much beauty into the lives of many in southwestern Ontario throughout her long career as an interior decorator. She ran her own business and over the years taught many her craft.
Shortly after she turned 75 she decided to sell her home, close her business and move to Prince Edward Island because she always wanted to live by the sea. She had 5 fantastic windswept years walking the seashore and starting a local bridge club. She then returned to family and friends in London. London was always home.
Many thanks to the staff at Parkwood Rehab Hospital and the Southwest LHIN. And a special thanks to the PSWs and palliative nursing team with VON, you helped give dignity to her final days. She will be missed by all. She lives on in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In memory of Betty, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the London Jazz Society, P.O. Box 25141, London, Ontario, N6C 6A9. She’d love that!

To have known the three of you was to have known a significant part of your mom. I do remember how proud she was of her three kids. Reciprocally, you must have felt the same about her. Under different circumstances, I would have connected in person at this difficult time. But perhaps an email correspondence might be possible. Along with another 5 photos of memorable students, you still sit on my home desk Carolyn, reminding me of that charmed career I was fortunate to have at Oakridge. I am sorry for your loss you two. The fullness of your mom's life anchored in her love for her family speaks for itself.✌ï¸ðŸ™â™¥ï¸
Dear Janis , Carolyn and families, My heart goes out to you. Betty decorated so many lives, mine included...with song , stories, and dreams. She will be missed. Sincerely, Judy
Dear Janis. I so wish I had of known your mom was still alive. For some strange reason I thought she has passed many years ago. I thought of her many times over the past years and would have loved to have visited her. I have fond memories of you and your mom on Oxford Street as neighbors. Especially sitting on your step watching me and my bridesmaids have our pictures taken before I went to the church to marry Wayne. I probably drove your mom crazy playing my music so I could hear it on the patio, playing "Midnight Blue" over and over feeling so sad Wayne wasn't there but would be on the weekend. Of course I was only 33yrs old so what did I know to be more considerate. LOL I remember the day I read Raymond had passed and the sadness when I ran into you in the parking lot and confirmed that it was so. What an incredibly sad time for your family. Your mother was such a beautiful sweet woman. Perhaps when you have the celebration of life, I will be able to be come. Would love to see you. Take care of your self and your family in this difficult time not only of sadness but with this virus. Love to you. Jan I would be happy to hear from you by email if you get a chance.
I knew Elizabeth Gloude. She was my best friend from public school's mother. His name was Raymond. We were great friends and had a understanding of one another. Raymond died in a car accident in 1984 and I miss him greatly and think about him often. Elizabeth was a strong and intelligent woman and I remember her in her home downstairs doing production for home decorating - curtains, slip covers, pillow cases and working very hard and tirelessly when I would come over to see Ray after public school. She was very nice to me and after Ray passed away, I continued to see her on occasion. I remember her home phone number to this day. 471-0640 if my memory serves. Janis and Carolyn must miss her mother and I know they loved her very much. She was a good woman. Elizabeth Gloude, God Bless you and rest in peace. Amen Richard Todd Kirkpatrick
My heartfelt sympathy and condolences on your loss. Betty was a truly lovely lady and I am so pleased to have known her. May the many wonderful memories you have of her, help you through this difficult time.
My deepest condolences to my cousins Janis and Carolyn. So sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I've been trying to contact either one of you to let you know of my father's passing (Norm Gloude). Please contact me thru my email as I have some things for you from my dad. Big hugs to you both!
