Frances Isobel (née Hawryluk) King

December 31, 2020

July 12, 1925 – December 31, 2020

After a short illness and living with Dementia for the last 4 years, Frances passed away peacefully, at the age of 95.  Beloved wife of the late Captain Roy E. King, her loving and patient husband of 70 years. Mourning her passing are her children: Adrienne (Kerrigan) Almey, Mark (Mandy) King, Rae (Gerald) McKenna; grandchildren: Jeremy Almey and Quinn Hix, Taylor King, Mary Kate McKenna, Maureen McKenna, and Patrick McKenna; great-grandchildren: Aya Hix, Elizabeth Almey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents, Michael Hawryluk and Violet Rose (Waleria) née Paluch; her sister, Edith Fellenberg; her brother, Orest Hawryluk; and her grandson, Michael Almey. Born in Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, Manitoba, Frances was raised in her parent’s restaurant, The Snap Inn, in Winnipeg Beach.  She lived a long and healthy life and enjoyed many activities. An avid golfer, she and her late husband were longtime members of Sunningdale Golf & Country Club, Thames Valley Golf Club, and RCAF Station Trenton Golf Course. They each accumulated three holes-in-one and Frances served on the Executive of the Ladies’ League for a number of years at all three courses. She was a longtime member of Byron United Church, a member of various curling leagues, and she enjoyed spending time playing bridge with her friends in the neighbourhood leagues in Byron. Frances was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed crewel embroidery, and she became a one-time member of the London Flower Guild. She also enjoyed ceramics, batik and other artistic endeavours, including drafting and all sorts of needlecraft. Frances was a wonderful mother and loved spending time with her husband, family and friends, travelling the world, taking long family vacations touring Canada or camping with friends. We would like to thank the South West LHIN, the VON Middlesex-Elgin PSWs, especially Wilma, over the last 4 years, for the excellent care provided to our mother while in hospital and by the VON Palliative Care Team at home. We would also like to thank the nurses from ParaMed. You are all truly wonderful and you made our mother’s last days so much better. Thank you! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Frances are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex or the MS Society of Canada.

My condolences to the King family. I first met Fran way back when she and Roy were members at Thames Valley Golf Club. I have a very fond memory of Fran caddying for me in the Club Championship one very hot Labour Day weekend. She was such a gracious and caring person. Our paths crossed again so many years later while she and Roy were members at Sunningdale. I can only imagine what a great mother she must have been. I'm very sorry for your loss.
