Frederick Males

March 22, 2017

We sadly announce the passing of Frederick Males, age 90, on March 22, 2017 due to esophageal cancer. Loving husband of recently departed Pauline Mae (Wallace) Males on November 24, 2016. Devoted father to daughters Calla Mahon and Gaye Males (Jim Malcolmson). He was grandfather to Heather Gray (Stephen) and great grandfather to Lily, Cooper and Taten Gray. Males family reunions, hosted by his nephews and nieces, were important events which he and Pauline enjoyed. Fred was the youngest of seven, born on November 22, 1926 to parents Edward and Edith (Smith) Males. He now joins his brothers Albert, Charles, Robert and sisters Lillian, Marguerite and Victoria. Fred was a gentleman and a wonderful Dad. He started working in his teens as an airplane mechanic at the London Airport. From there he followed his father into the plumbing industry, where he became a Master Plumber and Estimator. Fred and Pauline ran two businesses, ‘Fred Males Plumbing & Heating’ and ‘The Beauty in the Bathroom Shoppe’. A lovely couple to watch glide on the dance floor they celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary in July 2016. Fred had a passion for golf and woodworking. He enjoyed many friendships through his long time memberships at both Sunningdale and St. Thomas Golf & Country Clubs. He was a natural athlete and many admired his smooth golf swing and love for the game, in which he won several club and local tournaments in his prime and senior years. He achieved two holes-in-one during his playing years. After retiring he turned his attention to various woodworking projects, of which the family has been treated to over the years and value his craftsmanship daily. He was a hardworking plumber by trade and always made sure his girls had their own tool kits, in order to learn how to fix items around their homes. He was a good listener and offered sound advice when asked for his opinion. Always one to keep busy, he was full of ideas for making products and promoting them. He was the first distributor of Dupont Corian when it came to Southwestern Ontario and he did many bathroom renovations customizing the product. The years living in Port Stanley were cherished but their return to London gave them the opportunity to renew old friendships. They were often found meeting their friends at Cherryhill Plaza several times a week and appreciated the care and interest from the neighbours at their condo complex. Numerous kind, personable professionals assisted us along the way with Dad’s health care. Our thanks to C.C.A.C., Sherry Vergilio, RN and Dr. Maria Parent for their compassion with Fred and understanding of his needs. St. Joseph’s Hospice staff and facility were wonderful, with Dr. Monica Bishop attuned to honouring Dad’s wishes. Fred’s life journey ended with dignity on his terms. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to the visitation being held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Joseph’s Hospice or the charity of your choice.

Calla and Gaye, We will always remember Uncle Fred's wonderful smile, his laugh, and his gentleness. He was a Gentleman in the true sense of the word! I know he is with your Mom now and the rest of the Males family of his parents, sisters and brothers. He will gently live forever, with love, in your hearts. Thinking about you both, and holding you in our prayers. Love, Joanie and Rick
