Frieda Rosa Hug-Zutter
August 2, 2014
Frieda Rosa Hug-Zutter passed away early in the morning on Saturday, August 2 at Mount Hope in London, Ontario, at the age of 104. Loved mother of Frieda (Emil) Kellenberger and Heidi (Brock) Rachar, loving “nana” of seven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, in Canada and the U.S.A. From a family of eight, Frieda is survived in Switzerland by her youngest sister Hildi (age 94), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frieda emigrated from Switzerland to Canada in 1948 with husband Walter Hug (deceased) and her two daughters. The family moved to a dairy farm near Mitchell. Frieda was always pleasant and a hard worker. When she moved to London, Frieda worked as a cook in a senior’s home until she retired, then became a house-mother and cook for the D.U. fraternity (UWO). Frieda always kept a beautiful and productive large garden, providing food and homemade jam to many. Family and friends will remember her determination and commitment to hard work, as well as her generosity to others. For the past dozen years, Frieda was cared for by her daughters in their homes, before entering Mount Hope earlier this year. Frieda is remembered on a memorial stone in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Donations may be sent to the Salvation Army, or Metropolitan United Church, where Frieda was a member. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Frieda’s life on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street, London, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
