We're so very fortunate to have gotten to know Gary over the years we worked together. He was compassionate, patient, and generous with his time. I'll miss his Smile, wonderful wit, and his desire to always do the right thing no matter how hard it was. It seems much too soon to say, but goodbye Gary.
Dear Steve and Family My sincerest condolences to you all. I was so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. He will be sadly missed by all that new him. Rick Myhr
My deepest condolences to all the Hicken Family ! It's been many years but have wonderful memories of all the Hicken's on good old Rosedale St Sarnia! Hugs to you all.
Jan, Mike, Chris and Julia Our thoughts are with you and hopefully your wonderful memories will give you some comfort during this tragic time. When I heard about Gary I started reminiscing and realized how fortunate I was to have know him for so many years. Such a kind, caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. I always knew if I needed anything I could count on Gary to be there for me. The world would be such a better place if there were more Garys in it. Family was everything to Gary. He would always share a story with a smile and that little twinkle in his eye. He was so proud of all of you. RIP my friend
To my dear brother Gar..⤠May you rest in peace and worry silently no more. Life has come full circle and you are now back in dad and mom's arms. Jan and Chris, Julia and Mike I'm so so sorry. There are no words to describe this great loss. My heart is with you today and always.

Jan and the boys. I was so saddened to read the news of Gary's passing. All of you were fixtures in Oakridge sports; I have countless memories of you and Gary at the arena, running the learn-to-skate program and helping out in many other ways. Gary always had a smile on his face and had time for all He was never too busy to have a conversation - he was genuinely interested in what everyone else was doing. May your family have strength in these difficult times. Gary's legacy will live on for countless families and their now grown "little hockey players".
I have fond memories of Gary at GM & GD. My sincere condolences to the family.
Dear Jan, Chris, Julia and Mike! We have such fond memories of Gary and your whole family back in the days of the boys Oakridge baseball games. What a great bunch of people we became friends with. We are so saddened to hear of Gary's passing, he was taken way too young. He was such a loving man and quite funny in spirit. So so sorry for your terrible loss. Sending you all much love with our deepest condolences. You are in our prayers! The Lennox Family!

Hi Jan, Chris and Mike, We are so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. He was our longtime neighbor and we will miss his friendship. Take care.
What a terrible loss . My condolences to you all. I worked with Gary at GM & GD - all I can say is that anyone who ever worked with Gary learned from him - particularly his adroit use of humour at even the most difficult times ; his absolute sense of decency - and came away a better human being for knowing him. He will be missed but not forgotten.
Sending my heartfelt condolences to Jan and the boys at this difficult time I can't even begin to comprehend what you are going through. I worked with Gary at GM and all my best memories involve him. Back then he had Gilmore and he was into hockey, hence the dog's name. He had such a good heart. He would always talk about his family - telling funny stories but never in a mean way - just funny. He was so generous with his knowledge. I'm so lucky to have known him. He was taken too soon. Lori (Paterson) Podolski
If you are very fortunate, someone may enter your life that will affect you in such a positive and deeply loving way , that you will cherish and love every single moment ever spent with that person. For me it was my little brother Whitey , 🥰😢. My bro Whitey loved his beautiful wife Janey and his two sons Chris & Mikey , and there was never one single conversation that I ever had with my little brother , where he did not speak about Jan & the boys . 🥰. Before we ever had the extreme pleasure of meeting Chris's beautiful wife Julia , Whitey would say , " Stevey wait until you meet her , she is so beautiful inside and out , you will love her " â¤ï¸....and he was so right. Whitey was a caring , extremely intelligent, loving , handsome as heck, over flowing with common sense and just plain solid advice , kind of guy .🥰. Whitey worried and was very concerned about anyone dear to him, as he use to say maybe I should stop playing hockey as I'm getting up there and he didn't want me to have a heart attack 😘, he wanted me to sell my motorcycle , and on and on . 😌 This time is so very surreal for all of us that knew and loved Whitey. 😢 The remainder of my life has been deeply affected with the recent loss of my little brother Whitey , 😢🥰🥰 Rest In Peace my Whitey boy , you have left a void that will never be filled. Oh God how we miss you 😢
So sorry to hear this Jan. I always enjoyed Gary's sense of humour and contagious smile back in the old slo-pitch days. Condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.
My deepest condolences to you Jan and to your boys. BJ told me the sad news. My heart goes out to you my friend. Jan Hill
My heart aches for you Jan, Mike, and Chris. Our deepest condolences!
To my brother " Whitey " you made an impression on everyone you ever met. You were such a family man and loved Jan and the boys more than anything and oh ya "Cody" too. You left us with so many great memories from when we were kids until we talked last week. I will miss the golf games and trips down south golfing at Wallys and Steve's. We will golf again Whitey , RIP until I see you again. â¤ï¸ Your brother
Jan, we were so shocked to hear of Gary's passing. Our thoughts are with you, Chris and Mike at this difficult time. Our deepest condolences, Rick and Val
I have fond memories growing up, and coming to your house in London, and memories of you and Aunt Jan, Chris and Mike. Some of my favourite times were listening to you, Uncle Steve and my Dad (Ken) talk about childhood memories and all of the funny, and sometimes crazy things you three did back in the day. The three of you would laugh and laugh (Whiskeys in hand). Grandma Ruby would laugh likely thinking to herself "How did they get away with that without me knowing?" I remember Uncle Gary as a funny, hard working, witty, smart, family man who loved sports and always, always had a dog!!! He was soft spoken and loved by all that knew him. We are all mourning a great loss at this time, but we must try to remember all of the good times we had, and remember that he did not suffer, and lived a good life! Everyone who knew Uncle Gary: family, friends, sports buddies, co-workers, and acquaintances - We are so LUCKY to have had him in our lives! "How lucky we are are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." Winnie The Pooh. Love Jes xoxo
We are so saddened by this news, Jan. We will remember Gary as a very warm, friendly and funny guy with a terrific smile. We know you and Chris and Mike will cherish all the good times and keep those precious memories of Gary alive. We are out of the country during visitation and the funeral, but wanted you to know we'll be thinking of you. Jim and Darlene
During our challenging time together as supervisors in locomotive final assembly, I remember with a smile Gary's daily optimism and humor. Goodbye, friend.
