Gerry ‘Buck’ George Higgins

May 28, 2018

It is with great sadness the family of Buck Higgins announce his passing on Monday, May 28th, 2018. Buck was the age of 70 and passed at home with his family and devoted wife, Kathy, by his side. He fought a courageous, prolonged battle with cancer with the dignity and grace of the gentleman he was. Buck will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Kathy, and his children Craig (Annie) and Jaime. He will also forever live in the hearts of his seven grandchildren: Emily, Aiden, Zoe, Eve, Theo, Mae and Lea. Buck’s sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ian Dantzer, along with his nephews Brendon (Laura) and Ben (Stephanie) will always remember many special family times together.  Also fondly remembered by nieces Kelly (Andre) and Tracey Buckley.  Buck was an active member of U.A. Plumbers Local 593 and proudly reached Life Member status acknowledging his 50 year anniversary. He mentored many young apprentices throughout his career at work and also at the Union Hall. For many years, Buck was involved in the London Knights Hockey organization as Assistant General Manager and as a player agent for Newport Sports. He was instrumental in helping many young players pursue their goals. Buck was an enthusiastic South Secondary and Western Mustang football fan, braving years of inclement fall weather. His happiest moments were spent boating in the summer and travelling to numerous sunny destinations with his wife Kathy, always by his side. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where a Celebration of Buck’s Life will be held on Friday, June 1st, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Joseph’s Veterans Care Program, Parkwood Institute, OSI Clinic for the health and wellbeing of our veterans.

Kathy and family, It's hard to find the right words to express our sorrow for your loss. Looking back over the years we have many memories of Buck and take comfort in them. The kids were very excited when they got to care for Maverick while you were away on a trip. Buck gave them instructions on what to do but he had Maverick so well trained that he just about took care of himself. Andrew loved taking care of Maverick. Buck loved construction and on many occasions we'd reminisce about the old days. Many years ago, his company was working on a project with mine. He had discovered an error on the plumbing drawing and wanted an extra to relocate a drain. The project manager said no and Buck let him have it. " I've got a stamped Engineered Drawing telling me to run a drain some where it shouldn't be.......... " and he followed that up with a few choice words that I'd never seen anyone direct at an Engineer. Buck knew his trade, no doubt about that. Not too long ago he built a zip line in the back yard for his to grandchildren play on. We could see the joy on his face as he helped them along. It seemed like Buck was always working in the garden and he was always happy to provide any help he could. A good husband, father, grandfather, uncle , tradesman, neighbour, Buck was all of these and so much more. We will remember him. The Ross family
