Gertrude (Gert) Susanna Berringer
October 11, 2026
Surrounded by the love of her daughters, Gert passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Dearly loved wife of George (2017) for 43 years. She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Weyler (Dale), Brenda Seager (Jim) and Eva Berringer (Gord Swan, 2007). Treasured grandmother of Matthew (Kim). Great-grandmother to Nathan, Jack and Blythe. Step-grandmother to Katy Swan and Michael Swan. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Michael and Maria Menyes, her sister, Mary Schertzer, and by her first husband, Gary Parr (1969).
Gert was born in Kitchener and grew up on a farm in Pain Court, Ontario. She moved to Chatham in her teens to attend business school and work at National Grocers. After marrying her first husband, Gary Parr, they moved to Byron, Ontario.
Gert was a longstanding member of Byron United Church, where she served as an usher for many years. Before Covid shut them down, she was a member of the Hi-Neighbour Group that made and sold nearly 100,000 meat pies, donating the proceeds to the Church and Teen Challenge. She was a member of the Byron Opti-Mrs and belonged to a ladies bowling league for many years. Gert enjoyed a good game of cards and was a fierce competitor in Euchre, gin rummy and 31.
Gert loved her family and made every birthday and Christmas a celebration. She was a wonderful cook and cake maker. Gert was a strong woman with a generous and independent spirit who loved a good laugh. She will be deeply missed and remembered.
At Gert’s request, there will be no service. Donations in memory of Gert are requested to be made to the Parkwood Palliative Care Unit, Ark Aid Mission, Teen Challenge, or to the charity of your of choice.

Aunt Gert is fondly remembered through our family get togethers. She was a wonderful lady who had an great laugh and was an amazing cook and fiercely protective of her kitchen until it was time to do the dishes by hand, (no dishwasher for her) then as the kids (Kelly and my brother Steve (nephew) & I (Penny niece) were allowed into the kitchen. Sometimes she even felt the need to strengthen our dish washing skills and empty out the China cabinet so we could wash some extra dishes that were not used that day for the family gathering. We did eventually figure out that we were washing way more dishes then were used! We will miss her great smile and laugh and the wonderful desserts she would always have ready for us to share! Our thoughts are with the family at this time. Love Penny (Ed & Sherry Parr's daughter) & Don & James McLellan
A donation has been made to Parkwood Palliative care. Message from the donator: What a blessing for Gert to be with loved ones, in a place that knows how to care for us, and to have faith, that special relationship with our creator. Proverbs 31:25 "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
Aunt Gert always warmly welcomed us far flung family members on visits, home made treats at the ready. My sympathies to all. May she be joyously reunited with George.
