Gilbert Allan Fearnall

January 15, 2022

In his 90th year, with his dry wit, loving nature, and sense of humour still intact, Gil passed on Saturday, January 15th, 2022. A devoted husband predeceased by his wonderful wife, Pat Fearnall. Loving father to Bruce Fearnall (Barb), Gary Fearnall (Kelly), and Jodi Dutz (Andrew). Dearly loved by his grandchildren Adam (Kelsey), Lyndsay (Zach), Marli Hanna (Sam), Erica (Max), Sienna, Jaime, Anthony, and his great-granddaughter Marlene. A proud grandfather who loved and supported his grandchildren and great-granddaughter with his whole heart. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Gil was a proud Winnipegger and a passionate Jets and Bombers fan. In his early years, he worked with JJ H McLean Piano (where he met Pat) and Trans-Canada Airlines before joining the Canadian Red Cross in 1957. He was promoted and moved with his family to London, Ontario in 1974 to become the Centre Administrator, a job he did with great conviction and enjoyment. After 40 good years, he retired in 1996.

He was a genuine family man who never stopped inspiring those around him with his positive attitude and energy, bringing love to all. He always made people laugh, even while fiercely debating the issues and news of the day. He was loved deeply and completely by his family and will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank the Amica London staff, Dr. Amita Kanwar, and the Community Paramedics for their tireless care and support.

Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. To receive an email about plans for Gil’s Celebration of Life, please add your name to our email list. In lieu of flowers, donations to McCormick Home or Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre will be greatly appreciated.

My deepest condolences to the family. Gil was truly one of a kind. There was never a dull moment when he was around. I always looked forward to my encounters with him at work. No matter the circumstance he was always able to brighten my day. He will be missed immensely. I’m so thankful I was able to get to know him over the past two years. The Jets will get the cup this year… I know it!!

Our deepest condolences to Gil’s family, especially Bruce, Gary and Jodie. We know how dear a grandpa Gil was to Marli, our daughter in law. Loved that we had a chance to get to know Gil, even in a small way. His shining light of humour and quick wit was so appreciated. Gil will continue to live on in the memories of all of his loved ones. Rest In Peace Gil.

I am very sorry to hear about Gil's passing. I worked at Amica for a year and a half. Gil and Jerry were always a dynamic duo. Whenever I would get stressed or would forget to grab something, Gil always calmed my nerves and was honestly just happy to sit with friends! I'm pretty sure he ordered apple pie with a side of fruit once as a joke so I put fruit on top of the pie as a joke and he loved it! He was very fond of jokes and always requested a joke before we served him. Ashley (another server at Amica) always had the best dad jokes and appreciated Gil's happy energy as well. We all loved him and may he rest in peace ❤️.

My sincere condolences to Bruce, Gary, Jodie and all their families as you grieve the loss of your dear dad!!! I know how much he loved you, and took pride in all his children & grandchildren. I had the pleasure of working with your dad at The Canadian Red Cross from 1975 until he retired in 1996. He was truly a great administrator I can still see him with his cup of coffee & peeking his head into my office & saying good morning & just checking in. My career at The Canadian Red Cross/Canadian Blood Services ended in May of 2012 & no other Administrator measured up to Mr Fearnall. To me he was always Mr Fearnall I could never bring myself to call him Gil. I have a lot of fond memories of your dad…..….best boss I ever had who truly cared about each employee. May he Rest In Peace now with his beloved wife Pat. Fondly remember by former employee & friend Liz Serpa💕🙏

John, Cath, and I will miss Gil, especially when we are again able to have our luncheons at the Hillside. He was kind, funny, and a great friend, and he will certainly be missed!

We have known Gil and Pat since we moved in next door in 1984. What special neighbours they were. We always spoke to each other most days about current events and sports as well as sometimes politics. They will always be remembered.

My deepest sympathy to you Bruce, Gary, Jodie and families as you grieve your great loss! I know how much he was loved and cherished by you all. And I know how much he loved you, and took pride in you too. You will miss him of course, but in time your wonderful memories will sustain you! For me, he was a really special guy with his sunny, caring ways, and his big smile. I always enjoyed coming together with him over many years! And he never changed! May he Rest In Peace now with his beloved Pat. With love, Marty
