Gordon Edward Brook

July 17, 2026

Gordon Edward Brook, 67, of London, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Gord was the beloved husband of Shelah Brook and a devoted father to Hailey, Ted, Dawson, Ian, and Olivia. He was a cherished grandfather to Christopher, Victoria, Charlotte, Rowan, Alice, and Willa, who brought him endless pride and joy.  He was a loving brother to Don, brother-in-law to John and Caroline, the son of Maxine and the late Raymond Brook, and the proud owner of his faithful Sheepadoodle, Dave, who was rarely far from his side.

Shortly after leaving Ottawa in 1985, Gord and Shelah made London their home, where they built a life together filled with family, friendship, and service. For 31 years, Gord proudly served the London Police Service with integrity, humility, and unwavering dedication. He was a founding member of the Emergency Response Unit and retired from the LPS in 2016 as a Detective Constable Specialist, having spent 16 years working in the Forensic Identification Section. Gord approached every challenge with quiet confidence, compassion, and professionalism. His calm presence, steady judgment, and commitment to helping others earned the respect of both his colleagues and the community he served.

Retirement gave Gord the opportunity to embrace the things he loved most. Gord explored the beauty of the Canadian Arctic, spending months each year in Inuit communities across Nunavut, including Sanikiluaq, Igloolik, Arviat, Rankin Inlet, and Taloyoak. Gord created lasting memories with Shelah and their children camping at the Pinery and across Ontario. He enjoyed working on his motorcycle (a converted ’79 Honda CX500), tackling handyman projects for friends and neighbours, cycling whenever he could, and sharing laughs over a game of cards. Perhaps his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Whether providing daycare, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, Gord treasured every moment with his family. He cherished the quiet mornings he shared with Shelah over a cup of coffee before each day began.

Gord will be remembered for his kindness, patience, gentle sense of humour, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was dependable, humble, and deeply devoted to those he loved. His greatest legacy is the example he set through a life of service, generosity, and unconditional love for his family.

Although his passing came suddenly, Gord was grateful to have enjoyed many happy and peaceful years surrounded by the people he loved most. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all whose lives were made better by knowing him.

A visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Donations in Gord’s memory may be made to the Annauma Community Foundation, an Inuit-led non-profit community organization based in Iqaluit.

My interactions with Gord were limited, but it was evident that he was full of warmth and love. His son Ian has been an amazing friend to me. From this relationship, and time with the rest of the family, it is clear that his remarkable character shines brightly through his children. This legacy will undoubtedly endure for the family’s next generation. My heartfelt condolences to Shelah and the entire family during this difficult time.

I met Gord in the mid 1980s as we both began our careers with the London Police. We would cross paths occasionally as we worked in different units. However, the last half of our careers we worked in the Forensic Identification Section and the Explosive Disposal Unit. These are tightly knit units and we worked closely on many major cases over the years. We attended many courses together at both the Ontario Police College and the Canadian Police College. Gord was a dedicated officer and a real pleasure to work with and to have a cold beer after shifts. Gord also talked highly about his family and was so proud of each and everyone of them. He always had a recent picture of his family on his desk, proudly displayed for anyone to see. You leave behind a big void Gord. We will all miss you. Rest easy Brother

Gord and I worked together in Forensics and on the Bomb Squad in London Police. We sat right across from each other in the office for nearly 8 years. Back in those days with the crew we had, we had LOTS of laughs and I have great memories of "Gordo" as we called him. He was a great man to work with, a solid team member and very skilled as both a forensic identification officer and an explosives disposal technician. I was very lucky to have worked with Gord for so many years. RIP brother, you will be missed by everyone my friend.

To the Brook Family It’s with great sadness I write these few words. I worked along side of Gord in Forensic section so was able to witness his dedication and compassion to his work and especially his family. This will be a rough patch but reflecting on great memories will get you through it. Our thoughts are with you all. With regret I just learned the visitation is Thursday so will be unable to attend due to a prior commitment.

I had Gord as my partner for my first trip north. We worked together in Arviat in February 2023. He was kind, thoughtful and supportive for my first experience in the north. We stayed in touch and came to work in the same community of Igloolik. Although, we did not work the same shift together we did see each other when relieving at the airport. He always had a hug for me and a warm hello. I learned about his family and he sent me pics of his newest grandbaby when she was born. He was so proud of all of them. I recently received a text message from an unfamiliar number advising his moved and got a new phone but lost all his contact info. Of course he didn’t leave his name I assumed it was a spam message and asked my other colleagues if they recognized the number or got the same message. Gord finally messaged us again to advise it was him. I told him he should have know better than to send a message like that to a bunch of retired cops….lol. Gord, I hope you are in a better place and watching over us all. You will be missed. Condolences to the family at this difficult time. Deb Easton (Retired Saint John Police) SSRG
