Gordon “Kent” Shelby

July 6, 2024

Kent passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 6, 2024, surrounded by his family, following a brief battle with cancer.  He was 70 years of age.

Kent was born and raised in Scarborough, and moved to London in 1979, when he accepted a position at London PUC which later became London Hydro.  He was the Control Systems Technologist when he retired after 34 years.

Beloved husband to Karen for 46 years. Proud father of his son, Steven (Erin), and his two daughters Carolyn and Laura (Matt). Adored Grandpa to Mia, Patrick, Leila, Daphne, Evan, and Sabrina. He is also survived by his loving sister Heather (Mike) Gerroir. Predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Lillian Shelby; his sister, Linda Bain; and his son-in-law, Forde Lamberth. He will be remembered by the Near family, many nieces and nephews, his golfing buddies, many friends, cousins, and members of the Retiree Association of London Hydro, of which he was the chairman.

As per Kent’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.  Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.

So sorry to hear of Kents passing. Worked with Kent at London Hydro for 30 years. He was an exceptional guy, a strong union employee and one who went above and beyond the call of duty for his union members. He truely was an exceptional friend to all. We will miss you Kent. Condolences to your family .

Hey Big Chief, Love ya and miss ya down here but I know you're living it up and doing better now. We had that Gibsons 12-Year-Aged Rare Rye and Coke last Saturday - good choice! Also, I listened to your song list, and I suppose it's true what they say, great minds think alike! Thanks for always being a fun uncle. No matter what was going on in either of our lives, I knew that whenever we met, that we could always have good conversations and get excited about the newest and coolest tech out there. I know it's not a goodbye, but a see you later. Say hi to all the family up there. Love ya always. Your epic nephew, Eric
