To My Dear Sister In Law Halina: It was a sudden shock to hear that you have passed. Forever a shining light and warm heart beaming from your eyes. Even though Dad and I have been on the west coast all these years you were always the one who made sure to keep in touch. The pictures you sent of the boys growing up have filled Dad's, Grandpa's, (or Big Bad John to some) wall like a shrine. It is to you that we owe thanks of never forgetting that Grandpa is Grandpa no matter what. You were and always will be my older sister. Much love and respect from us. R.I.P Think as though every thought, Were etched in fire for all and everyone to see. For in Truth It Shall Be. - Upanishad

~ Jason Sholtanuk

My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. I knew Rick and Halina since I was 15 years old and we hung out a lot in our 20's. I valued your friendship so very much. I was deeply shocked and saddened when I find out a month after she died. I loved you and will miss you and you will be in my heart forever. Halina was the kindest and sweetest person I have every met and was there for me a lot over the years. I will treasure the memories and we shall meet again some day. Love to Rick the boys and Halina.s family.

Halina, I am still in shock over your passing. Loved working with you at flu clinics and school immunization clinics - in your obviously favourite black and white Hurley sweater. Thank you for including me in your life's journey. You will be greatly missed.

~ Andrena McElroy

Dear Rick Nathan and Jordan My heart and Prayers are with you.Halina we be missed by anyone that ever had the pleasure to know her.

~ Debbie Atkinson

Dear Rick, Nathan, Jordan, pani Rybczynska and Stasiu, Frank and I are so very sorry that Halina is gone much too soon. She loved you all so very much, and she was especially proud of her beautiful and talented sons. I know she leaves a huge hole in all of your lives but I hope that you will feel her loving presence as you move forward in your lives, and I hope that your happy memories will bring you much comfort. Raising our families on opposite ends of the continent, the opportunities we had to spend together as adults were very few and far between. I was honored to co-host a small baby shower when she was expecting Nathan, and to witness her excitement about impending motherhood, and to visit with Halina and her family at their beautiful home. We were great friends as young girls, and the ever present smile and warm persona others have used to describe her are exactly how I remember Halinka, as we called her. She just radiated love and joy and made the world a better place for those whose lives she touched. We are sorry not to have been able to be with you today, but we did honor and remember Halinka in our own way. I remember a girl who loved nature, loved the water, loved plants, and so this morning I picked a small bouquet from our garden, we walked in silence to the end of our local pier, and after saying some prayers for her and for all of you, I tossed the flowers into the Pacific Ocean. I felt how heartstrings are connected across the vastness of distance… and I hope that you will always feels yours connected with hers. Rest in peace, Halina, and may that peace finds its way to you Rick, Nathan, Jordan, Pani Rybczynska and Stasiu, as you learn to navigate the world without this very special lady. Love you Halina! Ela

I had the pleasure of working with Halina at the Health Unit many years ago. Although we did not keep in touch when I left to return to school, I thought of her often. Halina was shy and sweet and always willing to lend a hand at work. She was so young then and did not even have children. I was saddened to see her beautiful picture in the newspaper and to learn that she has left behind two sons and her husband. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends who have lost this beacon of light.

Halina, Ritva, Jenny and I worked in the same office at South St. back in the early days ('80s) of the HU. Oh, the laughs we would have; we have kept in touch throughout the years from our different depts - to share a few minutes and/or a break to cath-up with each other. It truly was a pleasure to have known Halina and my deepest sympathy, prayers and thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time. Halina you were a gentle soul and will be truly missed by all.

~ Yvonne Morrell

I was truly saddened when I heard of Halina's passing. Although I haven't been at the HU for awhile, I thought of her often - going to the states for the day with five other women and laughing all day, working with her on the "top floor" and listening to her being very patient while people called in for travel immunization questions. We talked about strawberries once and she was so kind and brought me a strawberry plant, which still bears fruit. I will always think of her while having tea and strawberry jam on toast. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this most difficult time. You will be missed by everyone.

~ Pam Graham

Although I didn't have the pleasure of working with Halina when ever I saw her she was always smiling you felt the warmth coming from her. I have heard so many wonderful things about her but the main theme is her loving smile which conveyed her love to everyone. I lost my Dad to heart disease at the same age I know how tough it is and will be on the family ,the wonderful memories you have will help to keep you going, the pain doesn't stop but we get more able to deal with. All my love to the family.

~ Barbara Adkin
