Heinz Reinhold Gregor

Surrounded by the love of his family, Heinz Reinhold Gregor left this life peacefully, early in the morning on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Victoria Hospital, London in his 88^th year. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Jutta Lily Gregor (née Halbach). Supportive and loving father to Darrell (Deb) of London and Reynold (Stacey) of Nova Scotia. Cherished Opi to five grandchildren: Alexander (Lara), Natalie (Cameron), Nicole, Jaimie and Caitlin. Over the past ten years, Heinz formed a special bond with Ilona Kosa of Kitchener, whose companionship and care meant the world to Heinz and his family.

Heinz was a formally trained artist (Meisterschule fur das Kunsthandwerk) who left his home in Berlin, Germany as a very young man, determined to build a life away from the shadow of the Berlin Wall. With courage, he crossed the ocean, landing in Montreal in 1959 with $60 in his pocket. With that, and with Jutta joining him a short time later in London, he built a career, made enduring friendships and raised a family.

Early in his professional life, he engraved the original of at least one German postage stamp. He worked as a graphic artist for H.J. Jones and Sons in London for nearly three decades. Heinz sustained his passion for the creative arts throughout his life. He was a talented painter who emulated artists across many categories and who experimented with varied techniques and media. He loved music, many styles, but especially jazz and classical, which were always playing in the background while he pored over his newest read or the newspaper.

Heinz was active in his community. He volunteered with the London Little Theatre, supported the Stratford Festival and served on the Board of Directors of the London Condominium Corporation and Ontario Association of Condominiums for many years.

Heinz will be deeply missed by all who loved him, and we will remember him – always.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Home, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., with reception and interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Heinz may consider St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation or the Stratford Festival.
