Henry “Hank” Binnendyk

May 8, 2024

Henry “Hank” Binnendyk passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024 in his 90th year.

Beloved husband of Yvette Binnendyk for over 62 years. Cherished father of John Binnendyk of Port Elgin, Mike Binnendyk (Kathy) of Seaforth, David Binnendyk (Mechelle) of Komoka, Joan Binnendyk (Kevin) of London, Linda Kondrosky (Erik) of Phoenix, and Lois Binnendyk (Pierre) of Kitchener.

Proud grandfather of Jacob and Jessica Binnendyk; Jennifer Costello and Nicole Tiegs; Samantha Sinasac, Cody Pelacek, Kristian, Alex, and Taylor Binnendyk; Sarah Marson, Joseph Mellen, and Jackson Binnendyk; Ashton and Ryder Kondrosky; Sydni and Mackenzie Furlong. Loved great-grandfather to Anderson and Henrik Binnendyk; Brixton and Gracie Moreno; Jakob, Layla, and Nash Binnendyk; Madisen, Breanna, and Carson Costello; Connor and Ava Tiegs; and Caleb Marson. Also survived by a sister, Gerda Vennema, and many nieces and nephews in the Binnendyk and Vennema families.

Predeceased by his wife, Yvette Binnendyk, parents Johanna (Anne) and Arie Binnendyk, his brother Bob Binnendyk, and beloved grandsons Jeffrey Binnendyk and Luke Binnendyk.

Hank came to Canada from the Netherlands with his family after WWII, engaging in a variety of positions as he developed the fundamental skills to follow his farming dream. He had a very successful career in the dairy business with an award-winning herd in Tuckersmith Township, Huron County. After his farming career and with a solid background in agriculture, Hank worked as a consultant with the Farm Debt Review Board, mediating between creditors and farmers to help farmers remain viable during the interest rate spike of the 1980s.

Hank’s greatest love was his wife, Yvette, and their six children. Hank and his family were regular members of the Kippen United Church, where he enjoyed being a member of the choir. In retirement, Hank discovered his passion for tennis, and from that point on he was hooked.  Greenhills Country Club in London became his second home where he pursued winning and newfound friendships with equal vigour. He cared about developing tennis skills in youth, and after becoming a certified tennis pro, created the Seaforth Tennis Club where he volunteered his time for 13 years, teaching young people from the broader community. In 1996, Hank was honoured with the Seaforth Citizenship Award for Service to Sports. Tennis become integral to Hank’s identity and with his passing, we like to think he is still swinging a racquet.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13th from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario. Please join us for a service to follow at 6:00 p.m.  For those unable to attend  please click on the link Remembering Hank

Our sincere sympathy to you all. We remember Hank as being a friendly and kind person. Paul has fond memories of your family at Kippen church and riding rusty rusty 86 to Huron Centennial. We appreciated Hank's coaching and expertise when he taught us to play tennis in the late 90s. Thinking of you all as you remember his life and honour his passing. Hold tight to the good memories and shared stories. Trish and Paul

I so enjoyed playing tennis with and against Hank! A true gentleman. I also was fond of Ivette. She came swimming for a summer while Hank played tennis. Such a lovely family! They are missed!
