Henry ‘Harry’ Humfress

May 21, 2015

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Harry ended his life’s journey on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Craigwiel Gardens in Ailsa Craig. A loving husband to the late Ethel and best Dad in the world to Lynn, Sue and Jeanette. Dear father-in-law to Richard and Sherman. Cherished Grandad to Melanie (Wil), Trudi (Nick), Mark (Melanie), Lauren, Terry, Alex , Kassie (Aaron), and Pearson. Great-Grandad to Kieran, Taylor, Aiden, Jacob, Max, Laurelle, Andrew, Alexander, Sherman Jr. and Ava. Harry demonstrated kindness, warmth, love, compassion, tolerance and understanding to all those whose path he crossed.  He quietly showed his love for his family in all he did for them; he was a wonderful listener, an avid reader, a good golfer, and strong supporter of the OLG! He was greatly respected by his colleagues at Great Lakes Copper, (formerly Wolverine Tube) and is remembered as an inspiring mentor by the many apprentice electricians whose careers he formed. Harry had recently celebrated his 92nd birthday in March with his family and friends.  Throughout his life, he taught his family many valuable lessons, such as “Don’t throw that piece of wire away, I can always use it!” or “Bits of string always come in handy!” but the most valuable lesson of how to be a good and gentle person, will stay with us forever as his legacy. Harry’s family can never begin to repay the compassion and care shown to him by all the staff at Craigwiel Gardens, especially Heidi, Mary Anne, Michelle, Murray and Dr. Andrew Whynot.  This wonderful team filled Harry’s last few months with the knowledge that he belonged to a warm, embracing community. A memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, to honour Harry on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Harry would be happy if you would make a donation to the London Public Library in his name, so others may continue to enjoy his love of reading.
