We shall miss our gentle giant for he was always a quiet and calming presence whenever I saw him during one of the many socials we frequented. Margaret was always by his side and he by her side. His hand will always be on her shoulder in spirit. Beverly, I cannot express my words of sorrow but only can say I am so sorry he has left us but remember, he is not gone. Just gone beyond waiting to meet all of us with his arms aching to hug us. Our most deepest sympathies to you all from Chris, Patty, Gabby and Cassie

Words cannot express how I am feeling at this moment. My deepest sympathy to you Bev and Bill, and of course Marg, and to all your family. I am so grateful to have known Ian, he was a remarkable man! Whenever I went over to Ian and Marg's I felt like I was home. So many memories are racing through my mind. I enjoyed watching Ian share fond memories of his years growing up; his travels (Montreal Olympics), his work at Fanshawe, his many deaf friends, his family - particular Bev....and then also watching him share stories of his struggles over the years - his education, losing his vision, etc. I feel very honoured to have experienced so many events with Ian; the morning of 911, Ian and I arrived at CNIB and got the news....the day that Pierre Elliot Trudeau died (I think that was the first time I saw Ian cry).....his daughters wedding......so many memories...and one of the most pleasant memories...watching Ian and Marg together, I always hoped I would find a partner who I could have so much fun with and who would love me as much as I loved them. I am happy to say I found that person and I hope I have a long relationship like Ian and Marg. I will miss him and remember him always.....

I still vividly remember Ian as he was so noticeable in any social gatherings. He was a 'giant' everywhere. Even so, after he and I were later diagnosed as having a degenerating retinal disease, he remained as a giant in a yet-prospering deaf-blind community here in London. Marg and Bev, so sorry to hear about your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

~ Scott R. Burch

I have many fond memories of Ian, a thoughtful, caring man and a great teacher. In the early years when I began my career as an intervenor, I could fingerspell and just finished my first level of American Sign Language. During that time I met Ian at Lake Joseph and he volunteered to become my tutor for the week, which I gratefully accepted. I often look back on those days and think how his patience and sense of humour made me feel comfortable and encouraged me to continue learning. I eventually met Marg and Bev through Ian and Bev and I became long time friends and colleagues. Ian understood the importance of "people helping people" and I will always cherish his kindness. Margaret, Bev, Bill, and family my sincere condolences, Ian was a wonderful person and will be missed by many. Peace.

~ Nancy Lord

~ Mande, Jason, Lizzy and Elliot

Bev, Marg & Bill, the first memory of Ian that comes to mind is of him walking down the boardwark at Lake Joseph (many years ago) with a big smile on his face and ready to have a chat. I would only see Ian and Marg at camp in the summer but they always made you feel welcome. I am so sorry for your loss. There is a saying.... "As time passes, gradually we move toward the day when the comfort of our memories is greater than the sorrow of our loss" This is what I wish for you. Thinking of you, take care, Maureen
