Irena Paszynska

February 12, 2016

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday, February 12, 2016, in her 87th year.  Irena’s life has been a never-ending journey from the time she was 7 years old when her family was taken from their farm in Poland to Siberia, Russia.  Because of the war, she moved to Africa with her parents, Maria and Antony Swinoga, before going to England, at the age of 19.  There, she met and married Felix (d. 1993).  Both of them were extremely hard-working with solid, moral ethics.  Irena settled into family life, caring for her daughter Grazyna and her son Eddie (d. 1998).  She was always very busy, very creative and an amazing seamstress.  Irena was detailed and always took time to compliment others.  Her dedication and caring to family was unrelenting and always her priority.  In 2004, Irena came to Canada with her best friend and companion, Ken Greenhalgh (d. 2013).  It was here that she was able to reconnect with her daughter, her son-in-law Nippy, her grandson Grant “Grantski”, her older brother Ted (d. 2011) and his wife Mary, and her younger brother Tony and his wife Jackie, and their families.  We are blessed to have shared our time together.  Those memories will last forever.  We will especially miss her sense of humour, kind smile and laughter.  A service to celebrate Irena’s life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, February 19th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Irena are asked to consider their charity of choice.  Grazyna, Nippy and Grant would like to thank “Team Irene” for their unending love and support through the laughter and the tears:  we could not have gone through this without you.  We extend our appreciation to the dedicated Juniper Staff at peopleCare Oakcrossing.  Irena faced all her challenges with dignity, strength and wisdom and always made sure you knew who was in charge.  She gave love, and that love will continue to surround us.

It is with much joy, love, and laughter that I will always remember Irena. She had a special sparkle that will continue to shine for years to come. She will be greatly missed by those of us lucky enough to work with the wonderful people who live at PeopleCare Oakcrossing. May God bless her family and friends. May they find comfort in their shared memories of Irena.

To Grazyna and family. No one can prepare you for a loss and sadness, but take comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of our Lord. Irena will be remembered as a very sweet, gentle woman with a radiant smile.
