Iris Audrey Thomson

January 10, 2022

Passed peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022, Iris Audrey Thomson of London, at the age of 99. Beloved wife of Bill for 77 years. Sadly, her Bill passed away almost a year ago. Cherished mother of Penny Myers (Bain), Jill Thomson (Rob) and Keith Thomson (Diana). Proud and loving grandmother to Christopher Myers (Jenn), Lisa Casaubon (Sean), Lindsay Myers (Phil), Max Thomson (Sasha); great-grandmother of Laila, Ana, Jackson and Baxter. Sadly, missed by nieces and nephews and her special and dedicated friend, Emily Brewer. Iris was born in Croydon, England. She was a Veteran of WWII working in Intelligence with the British Army and was assigned to Bletchley Park as a Decoder. True to her personality, she upheld her sworn oath to secrecy to the very end. She met and married the love of her life, Bill Thomson who was with the Canadian Army stationed in England, preparing for active duty in Europe. At the end of the war, Iris boarded a ship with all the other war brides to sail to Canada and begin her new life with Bill. Despite her covert, challenging and fascinating career in the British army, Iris would say being a stay-at-home mother and raising a family was the biggest joy of her life. She lived for her family who often referred to her as Mom, the Spy! One could not help but love Iris for her modest, selfless, caring and gracious personality with wit and sense of humour that would come out of nowhere! The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and the rest of the caring staff at Parkwood Veterans Care for their expertise, compassion and love they gave Iris especially during these challenging times. Cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Iris are asked to consider the Children’s Health Foundation.

Sending my love and prayer along with my sympathy and condolences to the whole family as you grieve Iris' and Bill's deaths. They were a most wonderful, warm and loving couple. Iris always made me feel special with her big smile, warm and cheery greeting and handshake. She loved the music programs and other daily activities at Parkwood. She was delightful and humourous. She will be so missed by all who knew her and loved her. May God bless you as you grieve, mourn and celebrate this wonderful couple.
