Irmgard Anna Emma Wodrich (née Hardow)

November 26, 2019

With thanksgiving for a life well-lived and much love shared, the family of Irmgard Wodrich announce her peaceful passing at Parkwood Hospital on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in her 87th year.

Irmgard was the beloved wife for 53 years of the late Rudolf “Rudi” Wodrich (2007), and together they enjoyed raising their five children.

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of Conrad and Kathy (Helm) Wodrich, and their sons Derek (Hannah) and Brent, Brenda (Wodrich) and Rob Miller, and their son Paul (Leah), and their children Ada and Wesley, Ralph and Rosanna (Califano) Wodrich, and their children Nigel (Abigail), Eric and Nicholas, Helmut and Elizabeth (Melish) Wodrich, and their children Andrew, Mitchell and Abigail, and Rudy and Natalie (Gogus) Wodrich, and their children Victoria, Conrad and Brigitte.

Irmgard is survived by her sister-in-law, Eva Vieth, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families in Germany.  She is predeceased by her parents Else and Paul Hardow, her siblings Hanni Pruetz, Klaus Hardow and Christa Hardow, brothers-in-law Friedrich Franz Vieth and Peter Pruetz, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ilse and Alfred Kramer.

Irmgard was born in Friedland, Mecklenburg, Germany and emigrated to Canada in 1954.  After landing in Montreal, she made her way to Seaforth, Ontario, to be married to her sweetheart Rudi.  In 1955, Irmgard and Rudi moved to Lambeth where they lived for the rest of their lives.  Irmgard and Rudi owned a successful landscaping and sod business for 35 years, and also found time for traveling and entertaining their many friends.  She was well-known in the community, volunteering for Diabetes Canada and the Dearness Home for many years.

Irmgard was devoted to her family, and nothing made her happier than family gatherings with everyone present.  She will be sadly missed by all of us.  She was an exceptional cook and baker, and marked every special occasion with delicious food, conversation and love.

We wish to thank all of the compassionate caregivers in the Palliative Care Unit at Parkwood Hospital, especially nurse Linda, who lovingly cared for our mother during the final moments of her life.

A funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.  Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Irmgard’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Parkwood Institute, or the Dearness Home Auxiliary.

Dear Wodrich Family, Please know that our hearts have been with Irmgard for many months. She has been a true and caring friend to Gerda since the early days in Seaforth. We believe that Irmgard is now singing with the angels. Rest in peace, dear friend! May God and those angels watch over you, her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren - and keep you healthy and strong. Rudy and Irmgard were known for their love and kindness to family and friends. Their generous spirits are still at work in the family members they have left behind. Many blessings on you all. With love, Gerda and Christel
