Jacqueline “Jackie” Gingrich (née Luiting)

Jacqueline (Jackie) Gingrich, née Luiting, passed away on Sunday, May 11th, 2025 at Victoria Hospital in London at the age of 79. She was the beloved wife of Philip Gingrich and loving mother to Heather Eckert (Shawn) of Walkerton, Allan Gingrich (Jill Holmes) of London and Erica Fitzsimmons (Joe) of Goderich. Jackie was a cherished grandmother to Sam, Phil, Mitch (Jess) and Kelsey (Ryan) and special friend Marisa. She will be dearly missed by her siblings Niki Mitz (Lew) of Kingston, Anna Schuster (Marty) of Haliburton and Dennis Luiting (Carol) of Goderich. She is fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Jackie was predeceased by her parents, Jacobus and Berendina Luiting, and brother Guy Luiting. Jackie was born in Winterswijk, Holland on March 11, 1946. At the age of five years old, she immigrated to Sudbury, Canada with her parents and two sisters. Her family endured many hardships in the early days but ultimately created a new life for themselves, paving the way for future generations. At the age of 18, Jackie married her sweetheart, Phil. They shared 60 happy years of marriage together. Jackie was a loving and dedicated wife to her husband and a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. In line with her caring nature, Jackie chose nursing as a profession. She spent over 35 years providing excellent care to her patients. She finished out her career at Parkwood Hospital with her dearest friends and co-workers Sue and Darlene. Jackie embraced her spiritual nature and was a moral compass for her family, expressing herself in typical blunt, Dutch fashion. Jackie was enormously creative. She wrote her family’s life story (My Name is Jacoba) and numerous poems and stories for her children and grandchildren. She painted, sculpted, made pottery, embraced a variety of arts and crafts and designed and planted the most beautiful gardens.

Her family is profoundly grateful for the exceptional care she received at Victoria Hospital Cancer Unit from Dr. Lazo-Langner and nurse Jane. Also, many thanks to Dr. Mount and staff of the Oncology Unit and the home care team including Dr. Sripalan, nurse Natalie, PSW Leah, Occupational Therapist Linda and Physiotherapist Karen and to her family doctor, Dr. Kreuzer and Megan. Their kindness and dedication as caregivers made all the difference.
