James (Jim) Alexander McManus
November 4, 2025
With his loving family by his side, James (Jim) Alexander McManus passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4th, 2025, at University Hospital in London, Ontario. Jim was a loving husband and best friend to his soul mate and wife of 48 years, Marilyn McManus (Christ). He was deeply admired and loved by his children and their spouses, Andrew McManus (Kathryn Leader) & Natalie McManus (Carson Kastelein). His grandsons, Darcy McManus & Casey Kastelein will forever remember their grandfather’s embrace. Jim will be dearly missed by his siblings, Beverly Merrifield (John), Linda Neilson (Bryan) & Diane Waye (Bill). He will be fondly remembered by his many wonderful nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Norma & John McManus.
Jim went by many nicknames (Jimbo, Jimmy, Jam), which speaks to his fun-loving personality and to the camaraderie he had with family, friends, and colleagues. He had no shortage of hobbies: skiing, hunting, sport shooting, fishing, camping, cycling, and endlessly researching the ins and outs of almost any and every topic imaginable. Jim had a long and rewarding career working alongside many colleagues, in many different roles, over 34 years at 3M Canada (1985- 2019). In his retirement, he followed his passion to coach ski racing and facilitate the London Ski Club race program at Boler Mountain. His legacy and love for snow, speed, and teaching others will be carried within the ski community for seasons to come.
Jim has been described by many as a remarkable man. He had an endless curiosity for how anything and everything worked, which made him an expert in many things. He used his intelligence and tools to fix, build, and create. He used his wisdom, spirituality, and love for others to support and mentor his family, friends, and community. Jim was a pillar of strength and security. May Jim’s memory be eternal through his creations and the lives he has touched through the journey of life.

It's hard to put into words how deeply Jim's passing has touched us. We are so fortunate that our shared loved of skiing brought our families together - not just us, but all of our children as well. I am very saddened to hear of Jim's passing. My deepest condolences on the passing of an extraordinary leader. I had the privilege to work with him at 3M. He was someone who carried a rare gift — the ability to balance work and joy with grace and authenticity. His smile was constant, his passion contagious, and his commitment to excellence inspired everyone around him. He had a genuine pleasure in winning-not for the recognition, but for the challenge, the perseverance, and the thrill of achieving something meaningful. That same drive everyone around him to aim higher and believe in what was possible. Above all, his family was his greatest pride and the center of his world. He led with heart, lived with purpose, and reminded us that success means nothing without the people we love beside us. May his legacy of kindness, passion, and determination live on in all those who had the privilege to know him. And may every snowy slope remind us of the joy he found in skiing and in embracing life fully. My thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with you and your family during this difficult time.
My sincere condolences on Jim’s passing. May his memory remain a constant blessing to all of you. Natalie and Kathryn - your families are in my thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace. 🙏

We were so shocked and saddened to hear the news of Jim’s passing. What a tremendous loss to his family and so many people in the community. We are truly lucky and appreciative to have known Jim. Jim made such an impact on our whole family, but especially for our son Anderson during the year he coached the U12 racing team. We learned so much from Jim about techniques on the race hill, finding the correct skis & equipment, and most importantly using the perfect wax for every different temperature! We continued to learn from him over the years as he was ever-present at Boler Mountain, ready to help or just enjoy a friendly chat. We will always remember Jim working tirelessly at every race carrying fences and gates, but also enjoying himself as he would cross the finish line effortlessly with a smile on his face! Through all of his efforts, Jim also taught us so much about humility, bravery and perseverance in all aspects of life. Jim’s calming presence, patience and kindness never went unnoticed. He will be truly missed but never forgotten. Suzanne, Paul, Anderson and Wilson Onn
Marilyn, Natalie, and Derek, I was heartbroken to hear of Jim’s sudden passing. Jim — or “Bossman,” as some of us affectionately called him — was an incredible leader and a truly special person. He led with kindness, always had a smile on his face, and believed deeply in the people around him. He knew how to balance hard work with laughter, and he created an environment where we could grow, both professionally and personally. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with him and to have learned from him. His support meant a great deal to me, and his impact will stay with me always. Please accept my deepest condolences. Jim was taken far too soon, and he will be missed more than words can express. With sympathy and gratitude.
Our deepest condolences to you and your family. I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim. I always remember Jim as a great friend who was always willing help us at work and share his wisdom.

Dear Marilyn, Andrew, Natalie, and your families, It’s heartbreaking to learn about Jim’s passing; the void he leaves in your lives is unimaginable. Jim was my manager for a number of years, including the time 3M employee kids got opportunities at 3M. Jim proudly introduced Andrew and Natalie to his work team. He was a unique leader with an inherent ability to lead a business team, while also nurturing personal relationships. No matter how stressful the situation, Jim would keep the ship on even keel and on course. Working on deadlines, he was the captain that would leave the ship last. There were a few F-bombs along the way ;) now, there are no words to express the sorrow I feel for you all by his untimely passing.
I had the pleasure of working with Jim on a couple of projects. He was one of the most sincere and kind individuals that I have ever worked with. Any time you met him in the halls of 3M, he always had a smile and said hello. My sincere condolences to Jim’s family.
It came as a shock to learn that Jim had passed. We worked together at 3M in the late 80s and recall all the hard work but fun we had. All the best to Marilyn and the McManus family.

My thoughts are with Jim’s family as they navigate this difficult time.

I was completely shocked and saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. He had a true passion and love for his family and for skiing. I will miss our long talks about the new equipment coming and determining the best gear for his racers. There definitely wasn’t anything on the technical side that Jim didn’t know about when it came to skiing. He was one a kind for sure. Rest well my friend and search out the best snow. Thoughts and prayers to Marilyn, Andrew and Nat and their families.
Jim made each of us better simply by being in our lives. His rare combination of technical excellence, deep compassion, and unwavering kindness left a mark on everyone who knew him. Marilyn, Andrew, Natalie—there are no words adequate for this loss. Jim's presence was a gift, and while that light has dimmed, the warmth he brought into our lives will never fade. He lives on in our memories - Oz, Alex, Bronwyn and I will keep in our hearts and minds - on and off the slopes.
We only met Jim and Marilyn a few years ago but it was an instant friendship. We shared several meals in our homes and played a mean game of dominos not to mention played a great game of golf. We are so saddened and shocked to lose him. Our deepest condolences to his family which he was so proud of. We will miss him greatly. Mike and Jane
I had known who Jim was for a few years from being around Boler and the Ski Club racing programs, but had only really gotten to know him this fall as he'd been at Boler on Saturday mornings when my son and other young racers were there for pre-season dryland training. Jim's leadership was evident at those sessions, as was his friendliness, diplomacy, and the spirit of inclusivity he fostered which made him an ideal ambassador for the ski club and the sport in general. We spoke several times, almost entirely with Jim answering my many questions about the intricacies and nuances of skiing, ski racing, ski selection, skiing destinations, and the list goes on. I got the impression that Jim loved engaging in those sorts of conversations, and I looked forward to many more. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Jim's passing; he leaves large boots to fill. Our condolences go out to his friends, family, and loved ones.
Jim, you will be forever remembered on the slopes at Boler - always encouraging, always smiling. Your spirit lives on in every run and every laugh shared. You will be forever missed, Jim.
Jim will be fondly remembered. He left this world far too soon. Our deepest sympathy to Marilyn and the family. May he rest in peace.
