James Marvin Scott

Always thoughtful and quiet by nature, Jim was a trusted source for sound counsel and generous support throughout his entire career at 3M. Upon our return to Canada, Nancy and I vividly remember Jim, a master of understatement - and with a twinkle in his eye - simply saying, "It's good that you're back." It meant a great deal to us. Our sincere condolences to Margo and family.

I was sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I learned much from Mr. Scott in my years at 3M - just watching how he conducted himself. He certainly led by example. He was most practical and willingly supportive to his staff. I have fond memories of sage comments he made whilst having that pipe in his mouth and that glint in his eye.

We have not seen Jim for many years due to our moving to the States over 25 years ago. We remember Jim as being a man of the utmost integrity. He was Dick's boss for several years and although they did not agree on every issue, Dick respected Jim for his honesty and sincerity. Dick remembers after work get togethers with Jim and Gord Lacey and we recall that we used to buy lamb from Jim's farm. He will truly be missed. Memories do not stop with the passing of a loved one, in fact they become even stronger. Remember the good with the bad and the life that was had. I am a cousin from King Township. I have not seen Jim in some time but remember him and all his brothers and sisters fondly. My condolences to all his family. It is sad to lose another member of the Scott family.

I loved Uncle Jim and am so sad. He is a great man with a sweet nature and a sharp mind! He will be missed. Hard to imagine this world without another great Scott in it. Our sincerest condolences to Margo, Liz & Rich and Doug and Anna and to the entire family of brothers and sisters and friends who mourn his passing. I do believe that we will all reunite our spirits and that there will be a welcoming for him and a place prepared. He was generous, hardworking, kind and unforgettable! Liz, Doug, Margo - I'm sorry for your loss. Most of my memories of Uncle Jim are from before I was 10; he was so generous to us kids, offering up the pool--he always "needed someone to stir up the chlorine" when he was away, hah--as a respite from the summer heat, and I like to think the farmhouse reflected aspects of his personality; classic style, with antiques like stereogram viewers (now resurrected in the form of VR headsets), electrical line insulators, butter molds, and irons, mixed with cutting edge technology like a videodisc player and a home Pong unit. Not to mention that pipe! As an executive at 3M, he also served as a role model and example to me of someone who could grow up on a farm but successfully enter and excel in the world of technology. Oh yes, and I can't forget that time he took Dave and I golfing in Exeter: most vividly, after Dave and I cleared a nasty little pond from the tee, Uncle Jim firing ball after ball into the pond and hearing him curse roundly. A rather unusual but formative experience :)

Jim was Finance VP when I started at 3M nearly 45 years ago. He was a great mentor to many of us in those early days, and some of his advice stuck with me for my entire career. He didn't usually say very much, but people listened when he did. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.

Liz, I remember meeting your dad many times back in our high school days. He was a quiet, kind man who always put up with our silliness and shenanigans! I know you will miss him greatly. Jim was a great mentor to so many of us through the years. I will never forget he an Margo making a surprise visit to Seattle for my 50th Birthday. A wonderful man, our condolences to his family.
