Janet McCulloch

May 7, 2022

Janet, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2022 after a short illness. Predeceased by her husband Ernie McCulloch, Janet is survived by her daughter Karen of St. Jovite, Quebec; her sister Nancy Belton Trumper of London, Ontario; nephews Steven Trumper and Peter Trumper; niece Katherine Trumper; and five grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

Orphaned as teenagers, Janet and her sister grew up in London, Ontario under the care of two aunts. After completing secretarial school, Janet answered an ad for a secretary to Mary Ryan, the owner of a ski resort in Mt. Tremblant, Quebec. Thereupon began a life of adventure and glamour. Janet married Ernie McCulloch, the head of the ski school and together they immersed themselves in the Canadian ski life of the 1950’s and 60’s. Janet and Ernie subsequently moved to Collingwood, Ontario, where Janet was able to unlock her entrepreneurial talents running a successful ski and rental shop. Always elegantly dressed and perfectly groomed, Janet loved to entertain and could light-up the room of any apres-ski party. A life-long lover of animals, Janet was never happier than sitting by a roaring fire with a dog or cat by her side.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at a later date. In Janet’s memory, you might think of her the next time you tackle the McCulloch run at Mt. Tremblant, or you can make a donation to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.

Dear Karen, We were neighbours of Janet and Ernie for several years. Both were such lovely neighbours. I played golf with both on the 9-hole golf course of Tremblant. We missed Janet a lot when she left for London. And we live on McCulloch Street! Our warmest thoughts are with you and sincerest condolences. Yves and Colette.
