Jeffrey Guy

January 7, 2022

A mentor, a wonderful loving father, a beaming with pride grandfather, and an ultimate loving husband has left us on Friday, January 7th, 2022, at the age of 80. After a period of declining health, Jeff Thomas Guy died peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London.

Jeff was born in Chatham, Ontario on November 21, 1941, to father Ralph Guy and mother Doris Guy (Montgomery). Their only child, Jeff didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education but was successfully self-taught.

In the fall of 1957, Jeff entered into what would become a life-long career in radio broadcasting, beginning as a studio operator at CFCO Radio in Chatham. In December 1960, he made the move to what would be his life-long home, London, ON, as he began a career at CKSL Radio. Jeff worked his way up the broadcast ladder first in the programming department, then transitioning to his specialty, Broadcast Engineering. November 1967, he joined the McManus Family at the newly launched Centennial Radio Station, CJOE 1290.  Over the next five decades, Jeff saw tremendous success in his career as Vice President of Engineering, CCBE President, launching new radio stations in London, Sarnia, Belleville, and more, as well as designing and building many broadcast facilities. He even found time to be the General Manager of the London Boat Show for 25+ years.

Jeff was heavily involved in his community. Embracing a passion started during childhood, Jeff proudly lead numerous Boy Scout adventures with his sons and many others. He played a very active role on many Home and School Boards and took great interest in all activities his family were involved with. Living in their dream home for over five decades, brotherly friendships were created with their wonderful neighbours. A love of European travel with Doris began in 1977 and continued for decades. Many summers were spent exploring Great Britain and surrounding countries.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Doris Guy (Hind); children Scot Guy and Kent Guy; and his adored grandchild, McKenna Guy.

Doris,Kent and Scott, please accept my condolences on the passing of Jeff. I have great memories of Jeff and the entire family when I was teaching at Arthur Ford. Jeff was always so supportive of the Friday Nighter and helped us get the wonderful sound system that we used in the gym for the dances. The whole family will be in my prayers in the days ahead. Stay strong during this difficult time.

Doris, Scot, Kent. Cathy and I are so sad to hear about Jeff. He left such a positive mark on so many people and we will all miss him. Such great memories working with him and always amazed at his incredible knowledge, kindness and integrity. Sending loving kindness to you all.

So sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. He was a great help in providing information and memorabilia for our family collection on CJOE 1290. In the early 70's Jeff also helped Joe McManus Jr. board up some windows when a tree crashed into his home during the middle of a snow storm. He always seemed to be willing to go above and beyond. A donation has been made in Jeff's memory to The Centre of Hope by the McManus family.

Doris, Scot, Kent – we were saddened to hear of Jeff’s passing. We have many great memories of times spent with you, Jeff, and the boys. John in particular has fond memories of being with Jeff at many Scouting adventures to Tamaracouta, Haliburton (where we all discovered what happens when a propane powered vehicle runs out of fuel!), and of course Camp Bice. We both remember friendship and laughter were the main menu ingredients at the many “gourmet” group dinners held over the years. Hold your memories of Jeff close to your hearts and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so saddened to hear about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I want to offer my sincere condolences. Warmest Regards, Carla
