Johann Hans Binder
May 20, 2026
How do we say goodbye to such a dynamic and beloved patriarch of our family? Born on March 5, 1932, in what was formerly known as Yugoslavia, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Johann Hans Binder, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in London, Ontario. He was in his 94th year. Hans was surrounded by his loving wife Katharina Binder of 71 years, and his children Cornelia, Rita, Linda, and Steve.
Hans lived his life robustly, with such purpose and joy. He recently said that he had done everything he wanted to do in life and would not have changed a thing… except win $100,000. The obstacles and challenges of his early years shaped him into a man of great physical and mental strength. He was resilient and always striving for perfection in every task until he couldn’t anymore. His example inspired all of us to make him proud and be the best versions of ourselves.
Whether indoors or outdoors, Hans was happiest building, working on projects, and tending the gardens, while being meticulous in every endeavour. He would often drop what he was doing if someone needed help and catch up on his own work later. He had a unique way of making you feel special, cared for, and listened to. Daily calls always involved checking in on how all the kids were doing and staying up to date with the rhythm of our lives.
His love of playing music and his dancing skills were superior and enjoyed for many years, creating special birthday musical traditions for all of us that we will miss and cherish forever. We are truly blessed and thankful for you, Dad, while missing you with an ache in our hearts.
Loving and fun OPA of: Melissa, Theron, Kirsten (Cornelia), Christina (our angel in heaven), Rebecca (Rita and Cecil), Jordan, Shane, Austin (Linda and Kasem), Kyla, Stefanie, Jenna, and Leah (Steve and Loretta). Loving OPA/OPI of: Tessa, Elena, Aaliyah, Lexi, Zayd, Autumn, Indie, Emmett, Hady, Illyria, Payton, Eero, Dacre, Luna, Aries, and soon-to-be great-grandchild #16. Cremation has taken place. Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, at Westview Funeral Home, 709 Wonderland Rd North, London, Ontario.

Dear Katie and Binder family. Han’s will be greatly missed on our street. He was either supervising how we did repairs or willingly helping out. If we couldn’t figure something out we always asked Hans. I’ll miss our leaning over the fence chats and daily catch ups. Hans and Katie attended every neighbourhood party which often ended in a sing a long and often with Hans bringing his guitar. We have all been blessed by knowing Hans. He was a wonderful, kind family man and we send our deepest regrets.
Dear Katie and family, it is with great sorrow that we hear of your loss. Hans was a wonderful man, great neighbour and friend. We will miss him dearly. Our deepest condolences.
Hans was our neighbour at our cottage. Words cannot describe what a wonderful man he was. We loved our visits with Hans and Katie during cottage season. He will be missed by everyone in our cottage community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and the family at this difficult time.
Our deepest condolences to the family. We are so sorry for your loss. May your wonderful memories bring you joy and peace.
I was blessed to have Hans as my father-in-law. Our family cherishes the many memories we have together. He was the best Opa to both of our girls Kyla and Stefanie. We loved him dearly and looked up to him for his many qualities. Loving, loyal, dependable, funny, upbeat and optimistic, the list just goes on. He was a shining example of what a patriarch should be. He was so devoted to his family. He loved life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face. We will miss you Opa, you will always be in our hearts. 💕

My greatest sympathies to Katherina and the Binder family. Hans was one of my favourites and I really enjoyed our chats when he came into the office. May his memory be a blessing.
