John Beverly McCann
October 21, 2021
Peacefully passed away at University Hospital on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the age of 88. Son of the late Harold and Florence McCann and devoted husband of 67 years to Betty McCann (nee McBurney). Loving father to Karen (Mark) Smith, Cindy (Greg) Patterson, Barb McCann, and Sandra (Chris) Howard. Proud grandfather to Laura Gee, Stephen Smith, Shane Howard, Andrea Howard, Nicole Patterson, Daryl Patterson, and Kelly Ann Lynch. Pre-deceased by his grandson Adam Vicary. Great-grandfather to Kendall, Camden, Kaylee, Mia, Dylan, Sydney, Maverick, Joshua, Austin, Annie and Wally. Dear brother to Gerry McCann, Jeff McCann and Wally McCann.
John retired from Bell Canada in 1990 as a Manager in Cable Repair, after a 42-year career with the company. He valued his friendships that continued beyond retirement, and enjoyed getting together with friends for breakfast.
He had many passions and they all involved his family. He loved to go to Port Franks on Lake Huron for boating and eventually built a family cottage there. John was the Director of the Midlanders Drum and Bugle Corps for many years and also an avid London Knights fan and longtime season ticket holder. He owned several horses over the years, and his love of horses contributed to Mackinac Island in Michigan being his favourite vacation spot.
Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery, 390 Oxford Street West, London. My deepest condolences to the McCann Family. May you cherish all the wonderful memories that John has left with you. He was a wonderful man to know and did a lot to keep us kids in tow in the drum corp. Rest in peace John. Deb Buchanan (McLean)
I was only 12 years old when I joined the Midlanders and met John McCann. I remember his passion, kindness and devotion throughout the years. I see in my minds eye a dark haired man with a warm smile. My deepest sympathy to the family. Marsha Trauber (Dykstein)
The loss of my father will forever be the most painful thing I have ever experienced. Dad I will honor you and all you have taught us everyday going forward and celebrate how special you are in our lives. I love you more than any words I can write here will say. You will never be forgotten. Love you so much.
Cindy and Greg, please accept our kindest condolences. Losing a father is one of life's hardest sorrows. Mike and I send the comfort of family support to you both in this saddest of times. I didn't know your father but I appreciated the tiny glimpse of him in that beautifully written obituary. I have to say it made me smile to think of him making music with young people. A man who enjoyed and spread joy. You will miss him dearly.
Our thoughts are with the McCann family at this time of sorrow.
