Wendy. You may recall me from Johns past at Bell in the 1970's. I have never forgotten him. I have a flood of memories flashing before me as I read his obit. Hiking In Scotland at Ben Nevis is just one of so many. He was a very special part of my life and I simply cannot believe that he's gone. And now it's four years ago. I read through the heartfelt and touching book of condolences and it is clear that his was a life well lived and that he was a man well loved. I will dust off my old photo albums of those joyous days in his honour. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Catherine
Dear Wendy and family, It was always a pleasure to visit with John, we had such interesting conversations filled with various topics from the mundane to the intellectual. He will be missed among many. Wishing you peace in your hearts and cherished memories to hold onto during this challenging time. Take care, Charlene Regional Manager, ALS Canada
Dear Taylor and extended families: so sad to hear about your loss. John was always someone I looked up to when I was growing up. He reflected such wonderful family values, standing tall and meeting life with courage strong and steady. May this time of sorrow pass gently.
Dear Wendy and family, I offer you my deepest condolences during this difficult time. I considered John a friend and role model. It was my privilege to have known such a wonderful man. Although I knew him only through work it was more than that. During his illness I witnessed this truly remarkable man even more clearly. How he dealt with his illness was truly humbling for me. I enjoyed our last visit together immensely and am grateful for that precious time. I pray for peace for him and each of you whom he loved so much.
Dear Wendy, Caroline, Heather and Carlos. It is indeed with sadness that John has departed from us. John was a multi-dimensional colleague and friend. I am reminded of his retirement event where I referred to John with a series of key words ... including technically detailed, team player, motivated, caring, thorough, hard working, dependable and dedicated. It was these key attributes that led to him receiving the medal entitled the "Order of the Cancer Program" ... a medal that was proudly displayed in the display case at Henley Place. Furthermore, he set a great example for the rest of us. Not only that, he served as a great Master of Ceremonies at some of the staff Christmas parties held at our home. John will be truly missed by us and his friends and colleagues. With sincere condolences, Jake and Christine Van Dyk
I'll remember John as the "go-to" guy when in University when it was time to get the beer, move something, or offer a helping hand with his truck. He always had a smile and never was seemed upset especially while he played his recorder. If it wasn't for John, I would have never met my wife, which I have thanked him constantly over the years. He was always the quiet inspiration at DU during our time spent together. In later years we got together briefly and not enough due to distance and my constant work travels. But when we got together he still brought a smile to our conversations. Wendy and girls our condolences go out to you all and you remain in our prayers. Love Martin and Birte
So sorry for your loss will be praying for you guys.

It is with grief in my heart that I send my sympathies to you, Wendy and Caroline, Heather and Carlos. I am deeply grateful for John's mentorship while we worked together, and our friendship beyond. My deepest sympathies to you Wendy and family. John was an amazing mentor to me both as a student, and also when I was qualified as a Radiation Therapist. He always took the time to make sure you understood the answer to your question-and always left me with a smile-knowing I could go back anytime and "pick his brain". He will be remembered with a patient, kind and wonderful disposition. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Anita Murray "
Our deepest condolences to you Wendy and your family. John stood out as a Physicist with the heart of an Engineer. He was a joy to work with, a pleasure to know and we are deeply saddened by his passing. He will be remembered, always. Jim and Lynne Allin
Please accept our deepest sympathy. It was a pleasure and privilege to work under John's supervision, which John turned into working with him rather than under him. I will gladly honour John's wish of "doing something nice for my spouse, family, friends and complete strangers". John and all of you, are in our thoughts and prayers. May John rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the family. John was a wonderful person and a committed Physicist always advocating for the patients. John started at the LRCP shortly after me. As I worked in CT and various management positions, John and I formed a great friendship. Affectionately known as "Dad", he once drove a couple of us to Toronto for a training session. We had a lot of laughs on that trip. One memory that particularly stays in my mind happened one day after work. I was in the washroom across from the Physics common area. I heard someone approaching and as I saw the handle turn on the washroom door, I realized I had forgotten to lock the door. There John stood caught off guard by me sitting there with my pants down. It took a few seconds for both of us to realize what had happened. I screamed "get out". He turned away, embarrassed. Months later we laughed about the "incident" and quietly agreed to never discuss it again. Little things like this gave us a genuine appreciation for one another and made work life that much more fun. John will be missed. Kim

Dear Wendy and Family: We can't imagine the enormity of emotions that you are all dealing with right now. We have been keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful that we got to share our wedding with you - we gain strength in our own marriage from having examples such as yours to guide us. I will always remember meeting John for the first time and being shocked seeing him eat fried chicken (maybe it was KFC?) with a knife and fork - that - and he literally knew the answer to every question my little kid brain could come up with! May you all find comfort in your memories and solace in seeing John's spirit live on in all the lives he forever changed just by being him.
