There is a Hurricane going on in Heaven with ATV's roaring, boats rocking, loads of laughter and fun and a very bright warm light that will be missed here by so many! Jon was such a beautiful person who we feel blessed to have known as neighbours and friends. As a couple Jon and Elaine were the most loving towards each other we have ever known. It made one feel good to just be around them and there are no words for how much our hearts ache for his 'beautiful wife'. Thank-you Jon for the bright light..may you shine on in heaven for Elaine and her lovely Daughters along with the rest of us who had the good fortune to know you. Cheers. C&L

Oh Elaine, Kayley & Shayna - our hearts go out to you and very sorry for your tragic loss. Of course, we only met Jon once in person during one of our trips back to Canada to visit (my) family & friends. We remember Jon as a very friendly, kind and loving person and we could see a kind of magic there between him and you Elaine, like Paul and I have with each other... an invisible weave of Love that only true soul mates experience - but easily felt by others around them. We were so happy you found each other. Kayley and Shayna, you will have witnessed Jon's kindness, respect and Love for your Mum and we can only guess he also helped guide you lovingly into your futures. Hold fast to your hearts the beautiful memories you all have of Jon, for it will be these that help guide you through your grief at this sad time. Please accept our sincerest condolences, from far away down here in NZ. Love Robyn & Paul xoxo

Our deepest condolences to Elaine, Shayna and Kayley for your tragic loss. We may have only known Jon for a short time but he was a positive influence on our life. From day one Jon's warmth, humor and energetic personality were infectious. We spent many dinners together and celebrating the slow progress of building our home. He was even generous enough to share his beloved dog Phoebe with us. He would often call over from the back dock "do you have my dog again!" Jon and Elaine's love for each other was beautiful to see. Thanks for all the great memories. We will miss those drinks on the porch. Martin and Louise Naylor xoxo

~ Martin and Louise Naylor

Our heartfelt condolences to Elaine, Kaylee, Shayna and all Jon's family. You are surrounded by the love of family and many friends to help you through this very difficult part of your life journey - lean on us all.

~ Darlene & Bruce Turner & family

As we sit here and read some of the beautiful condolences, we see quite a few repeated messages of what a nice, kind, generous, caring guy Jon was. What a testament to his life and person. He obviously touched many in the same way as he touched us....very special person! As so many also mentioned his love for Elaine that was obvious to us as well. Together or apart he always spoke of Elaine lovingly with that contagious smile and sparkle in his blue eyes. We are so saddened by the sudden loss of our new neighbour and friend. Our heartfelt sympathies to Elaine and Family xoxo It has been a short time knowing you Jon but so glad we met you and enjoyed some laughs together. You will be missed by many....all our love Keith, Penny and Erin

Elaine ... I am so sorry for the sudden loss you, and the entire family have experienced. Words have little meaning at times like this but they do remind us that even in the darkest moments we are not alone; when we feel most lost and alone, maybe that is enough. May the memories of love and laughter rise up in your souls and keep Jon alive in all of your hearts to push back the curtain of sorrow and contain the flood of tears.

Our hearts were broken when hearing this news. We recently had the privilege of spending more time with Elaine and John since moving closer to us. We spent some beautiful days out on the water with John as our captain. His smile and calm demeanor is something we should all learn from. I am in a state of disbelief that such a beautiful spirit was taken from us so young. I will believe that he will always be Elaine Shayna and Kaylee s guardian angel in all they do in life. His love for Elaine and her daughters was a love so special he was an absolute godsend in their lives. He will always be their father and protector. As difficult as it is to lose such a beautiful person the memories he created over so many years will bring them to smile daily. Rest in peace John, we love you and we were so thankful you were Such a special person to our friend and her daughters. You will be forever missed. Michelle & Emig Nohra

Elaine found her soulmate in John - a kind, wonderful man with a smile that lit up the world. Their love and dedication to each other was clear to everyone who knew them. Elaine, may your love for John and the incredible memories you share be in your heart forever, until you meet again.

Jon was one of my favourite humans. He told the best stories and had the biggest smile. I am so fortunate to have known him and to have shared laughs together. Sending all my love, always. Cassidy

~ Cassidy Crosby

My wife described Jon's personality the best, by relating his endlesss energy to that of a big, happy puppy dog. He was always full of life, boucing with excitement and anticipation, looking for that next new adveture around the corner, and like a great dog, he was fearcly loyal to his soul mate Elaine who he affectionatly called "babe." Her happiness meant everything to Jon. Being close neighbours, my wife and I spent many evenings in their backyard being wined and dined by Elaine and listening to Jon's constant flow of stories, which were always insightful, entertaining and endless. ( Except when he fell asleep at the table.) We got the opportunity to go on a vacation to Hawaii ( Kauai to be exact) with Jon and Elaine for ten days in 2019. The four of us went everywhere together, and we got to see first hand just how much Jon and Elaine were in love and how much their lives were intertwined. Heck, they could finish each others sentences. We cried when our best neighbours moved away last July and now we cry again at the loss of Jon, a truly amazing and inspiring man. You are one of a kind. We will always cherish the opportunity to call you our friend. Cheers to you Jon. We'll sip a glass of your favorite Whisky in your honour!

~ Dr. Kevin and Vonda Morrison

Our hearts are with all of you We have so many happy memories of fun times spent together over so many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you💕

So sorry to hear of your loss of Jon, Elaine. He always had a warm handshake and a sincere grin every time our paths met. I hope happy memories of Jon will help you in the days ahead.

~ Darcy Walls

Jon. You were always asking me about our landscaping and our yard. Specifically "when's that sod coming?". He joked that he would love to cut both our lawns. Well long story short I never had a good answer and it was a long time coming. Well Jon, the sod went in today and it looks great. You'd be over here tonight undoubtedly toasting our lawn and having a laugh about how darn long it took. I'm going to miss that, your laugh humorous nature and zest for life. Cheers my friend you're truly missed. Elaine. You know that your Haven is truly that. Safe harbour with many helping hands. Mike and Lynette.

~ Mike and Lynette Rosina

The world has lost a special man but Elaine, Kayley & Shayna have an angel in their corner for life. His love and support for Elaine and her girls was inspiring. Elaine finding her soulmate and their journey together was a joy to witness. Their similarities, work ethic and ability to make a wonderful home for themselves (several times over) and regularly open their hearts and home to others came naturally to them. But they always made time for play and travel and good times. The multitude of amazing memories from your many adventures together will help carry you forward. And our family, along with so many other people who love you and loved Jon, will be here to support you along that bumpy path.

~ Cindy, Pat, Emily & Ian Tremblay

Jon is the best person to stand beside at Carol & Charlie's annual Christmas party. His strong tall stature, big, broad shoulders and restraint with alcohol made him the perfect ally. As the latest of Mike Power's conquests brought to such an event, Jon took me under his wing and made sure I knew which brother to stay away from - and I still can't remember if it was the pilot or the brother. We would lean back against the counter and smile across the kitchen island trying to hear over the din of the room yet catching only pieces of conversation. Elaine was his princess in shining armor. Jon lit up when someone asked him about her, and I was there to witness his transformation. I last saw Jon at the 2019 Cabin Fever Gala for Alzheimer's. As always our smart dressed man put Mike Power to shame. Jon's classy style. He taught the world that he valued our company and wanted us to know that he truly cared for us - even those who may just be a passing fancy at a winter solstice party getting sore feet standing on an uncomfortable yet beautiful slate kitchen floor for hours at a time. So Jon Steel, my dear companion, lean in and lean against that kitchen counter in the heavens. The souls above need you. God Bless.

Jon was a great guy, My condolences to his family and friends.

~ Burt Steiner

He was a good guy. My heartfelt condolences, Elaine and family.

~ Tracey McGrath

As a childhood friend of Kate O'Connor, I often visited the Steel family home and I remember Jon as a bright-eyed, tow-headed little boy with an infectious smile - so unlike my own little brother. Jon always came to say, "Hello," and bubbled over with enthusiasm as he shared his latest project. I can still see that little boy in the photo published with his obituary. Although obviously older and wiser, he really hasn't changed a bit. How you will miss him! My condolences to all!

"I will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all. No... not the artful postures of love, not playful and poetical games of love for the amusement of an evening, but love that... overthrows life. Unbiddable, ungovernable - like a riot in the heart, and nothing to be done, come ruin or rapture." Marc Norman, Shakespeare in Love: A Screenplay I am so saddened by your loss. You brought out the very best of him. You were his poetry and he yours.

Elaine, Shayla and Kayley, We are shocked and saddened to hear about Jon's sudden passing. We will always remember Jon for his kindness, humour and generosity. It was always fun o keep up with the neighbours! But he was always one to include those around him in his plans. We enjoyed seeing his new toys in the driveway and chatting whenever we saw him outside and enjoying the parties in the amazing back yard that you and Jon built. Even when we moved, Jon was there to help us pack up the truck and we will always remember your surprise visit to our new home. We are so sorry for your loss and we are thinking of all of you and all of Jon's friends and family at this most difficult time. Ellie and Mike
