Karen Anne Donais

After a courageous and unwavering battle with cancer, Karen Anne Donais passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 31st, 2018. Cherished daughter of Alexander Donais and Margaret (Boucher) Donais and loving sister to Christina Lynne (Donais) and her husband Bob Curtis and Mark Steven Donais and his wife Amie (Eskra). Karen simply adored her nieces Angela, Rebecca, Emma and Sophie, and her nephew, Matthew. Karen was born in Toronto on August 2nd, 1963 and moved to London with family as a toddler. She attended St. Mark Separate School and A.B. Lucas Secondary School. She graduated from Fanshawe College as a Registered Laboratory Technologist and then became interested in research and worked as a Lab Assistant at the Robarts Research Institute here in London and in cancer research at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville. There, Karen was able to immerse herself in her love of nature and her favourite activities of hiking, white-water rafting and photography in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Karen also graduated as a Registered Nutrition Consultant and operated her own practice for several years. Always aware of the needy, she was a member of the Impact Church on Adelaide Street in London, where she became a pastor and a member of their Outreach Program. We are forever indebted to our daughter, Christina, husband Bob and family for their unceasing devoted care for Karen in their home in Ilderton in her final months where she was surrounded with family, friends and cuddling pets. Thank you to her co-workers at Loblaws for their generous and constant outpouring of love for Karen since her diagnosis and to all of the physicians who cared for Karen. A very special thank you for the compassionate and personal care from nurse practitioner Phil Daniels, and staff at LHIN, Lorna Coombs and nursing staff from Saint Elizabeth and the PSWs from VON. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, and at Karen’s request, those wishing to make donations are asked to consider World Vision Canada or the World Wildlife Fund.

I am shocked and saddened by the news of Karen's passing. I was an impressionable pre-teen when I met Karen and I thought she was so beautiful. She was quiet and shy and nothing like the women I was use to, while growing u in the Stone household. I can remember she had the most amazing smile and sense of humor. My heart goes out to her family. I hope it brings comfort to you to know that she was loved and adored by so many people.
Karen was my first "girl friend" in grade 6 at St Marks in London. She was my first love. My sister Leigh was a good friend of Karen. They were memorable times of my life. Its with great sadness to hear of her passing. My condolences go out to the entire Donais family.
Karen will be remembered for her kindness of spirit and soul. We are so sorry to the entire Donais family for your profound loss. I am heartbroken to hear of Karen's passing. Karen and I went to school together. In elementary school, Karen was the kind of person everyone wanted to be friends with. She was compassionate, beautiful, a great athlete and had such a great sense of humour. It is not surprising to read that she lived her life helping others. Sending love and prayers to Karen's family and friends.
Remembering our very special niece, who was always full of love and concern for others. So grateful that the family were able to surround dear Karen with peace and love in her final months.

We were friends with Karen who met at Impact Church and served together as volunteers for quite a few years. Dear Mark and Christina. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to learn of the passing of your sister. I did see Karen some time ago at the grocery store, and after such a long time period she still remembered me. She still had that infectious smile and sweetness that I remembered from when we were teenagers. Your sister was obviously a very special person, and I do remember the two of you being the same. My sincere condolences to the entire Donais family. I am deeply saddened to hear of Karen's passing at such a young age. I have fond memories of seeing Karen at our Lucas hockey games and sticking up for her brother in high school. When I think of Karen I can not help but smile.
I remember Karen with her smile that I would say would light up the world. Very comforting to know Karen knew her lord and had a close relationship with him. We are sad that Karen had to leave us now but we have our memories and knowing she is not suffering and at peace gives us comfort. 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Prayers and condolences go out to our good neighbours and friends the Donais family and my friend Mark.

This news is devastating. I knew Karen when we worked together at the O&A Hospital. Tonight I was listening to Pat Matheny and suddenly I was transported back to Ontario Place amphitheater 1990, laying on the grass looking skyward with KK 🥺 listening to his amazing music. I wanted to message her to tell her..😪 and found this notice instead. I'm so sorry. Karen was the kindest gentlest person.. I love you KK
